HS2 - Birmingham to Manchester scrapped.

I beg to differ Berlin to Leipzig ice train 90 euros return to sit on the fuckin floor or stand up for 3 hours brilliant, I’ve had better trams from the Etihad. Spains trains are pretty good though.
I’m not far off ten trips to Germany and it’s always been fine. Every other train journey in the UK has been subject to delays, cancellations etc.

I took a Spanish lad on one of our trains denton to town ,when he got on his exact words “what the fuck is this shit “

Didn’t lockdown prove that many jobs can be done from home now? No need to ferry so many people around.
Yes but, commercial land lords / hedgedunds/ pension funds have been in the government's ear to get people back to work in office as the occupancy is down and most aren't suitable for conversions into apartments, and of course these are all undoubtedly donors to the conservative party.

German trains are great.
German trains are alright, but they're not great by the standards of France or Spain. Public investment under Schröder and Merkel was a lot lower than in the 1990s, and the service on the trains is very unreliable now - about a third of them arrive late. Even the Economist reckons Germany "urgently" needs more investment in its infrastructure (not just trains). https://www.economist.com/special-report/2021/09/20/the-urgent-need-for-greater-public-investment

When my brother visited from Germany about five years ago and we caught the train from Northwich to Piccadilly, he said "old"
Next time he visits he'll probably say "even older" or "is this thing still running!"

Was that when when you reached Piccadilly? and I mean the area, not the station. Never have I seen so many drunk, drugged, dirty people in that place the last time I visited town. What a disgrace it was.

What gets me also is that aren’t they (the government) banning the selling of new diesel and petrol cars from 2030 or is that just an aim? Like the nonsense of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of our trains seem to be diesel still ….in 2023.

Whilst I know the train operators are no longer nationalised, is this not a case of do as I say, not as I do??

To turn a Mancunians phrase on its head, it’s words not deeds with this shower of shit we’ve had in government for more than a decade. Although not sure the alternative is much better!! But it’s got to be. Surely???
