We could have attracted somebody like Pochetinio, Laudrup, Martinez or Rodgers who are all superior to Hughes in every way. He was given a chance by our owner as he was only brought in a couple of months prior to the takeover

Peter Coates (Stoke chairman) said this when he appointed him....

"We've analysed his c.v. and believe he is very, very impressive and the right fit for us. He has a remarkably good record as football manager"

How the f*ck has he come to that conclusion!?

This demonstrates what amazing owners we have, plenty of other wideboy owners would have got rid. That was probably the biggest opportunity Hughes will ever have and an opportunity Managers could only dream of.

Yeah it showed what decent people they were but unfortunately the Hughes experiment set us back years and even after he left Mancini had to mop up his mess with the number of useless players on ridiculous wages.

I agree we were left with average players on silly wages, however part of me thinks that those purchases were required to send out a statement of intent despite it costing the club millions. I don't see how else we would have been able to attract the big names we brought in.

To be fair on Hughes we played some great attacking football, Mark Bowen just couldn't get top defenders we had to defend and Kompany was constantly injured, playing a season with a broken toe.
 
The thing about Hughes at Stoke is that it's more than just a former City manager messing up.
First we have the whole story about how dinosaurs such as Hughes and Fat Sam keep getting jobs; the long-term result being that kids with skill don't get near the first team to develop so clubs with the appropriate financial muscle bring in proper players from abroad.
The we have the Guidetti situation: We need him to play so we can make the decision whether to keep or sell. It's a total waste of time loaning him out to a club that won't play him.
And finally we have the horrible thought that Pulis might keep Palace up at Stoke's expense. Selhurst Park is a toilet of a ground; it's bloody awful to get to and the away fans have to endure facilities that make the Bullens Road at Goodison look top class. There is no need for them in the Prem. There's not much need for Stoke of course, but at least they are local.
 
It'll be interesting to see how Hughes approches this match as a heavy defeat could see him under a lot of pressure.

Hughes clearly isn't up to managing at this level any more and hasn't been for some time. I was amazed he was given the job and would be shocked if he's there at the start of next season regardless of what division they are in
 
Wins for West Ham and Sunderland today really put Leslie under the pump.

Stoke really need to get something today.

Sometimes a task is so easy even Mark Hughes can manage it.
Whoever chose The Chosen One was clearly a bit of an overrated muppet, as are those who swooned and claimed it to be a wise choice. Got to give him time though.
