It would be tragic and comical if Newcastle go down. So I hope they do.

Funny how sky have a say in what happens .Prestwich_Blue said:Interestingly, in 2009 Hull & Newcastle were in 17th and 18th places respectively, with Sunderland also in the mix on the last day. Ashley was also being a complete clown then as well.
Newcastle lost at Villa and went down but they'd also lost their last home match to Fulham by a goal to nil. There was a very controversial incident late on in that game when Newcastle equalised late on but it was disallowed by Howard Webb for something only he could see. Had they got thst point, Newcastle would have stayed up.
Someone well connected told me that they understood that Webb, who was the pet referee of the PL/Sky because he could be "relied on", was told to do his utmost to deny Newcastle a result, as the authorities felt that Ashley was bringing the league into disrepute and they wanted them relegated if possible.
Be interesting to see what transpires this afternoon.

That game was bent as fuck (any game with Sorensen in nets was allegedly) but why they seemed to want Bolton to go down I've no idea. Perhaps Gartside had pissed people at the PL off.aguero93:20 said:Prestwich_Blue said:Interestingly, in 2009 Hull & Newcastle were in 17th and 18th places respectively, with Sunderland also in the mix on the last day. What on earth did Bolton do to deserve that rugby tackle on their keeper in 2012 to stand then?

I've posted on here before about Lee Mason, who declares himself a Bolton fan, being allowed to referee a game at The Swamp (his real team) involving QPR. He gave that infamous penalty when an offside Ashley Young dived and then gave a dubious red to Shaun Derry Because of that dive. As a declared Bolton fan, there was an obvious conflict of interest in him refereeing a game involving their relegation rivals and Mike Riley got some stick for that when he gave his talk at our place soon after.
