Huntingdon Train Incident - Reports of multiple stabbings

Not stupid at all. Increases in stop and search is needed and it should be targeting anyone that dresses like a gangster. If that's mainly black people so be it.
I’m actually a supporter of stop and search.

But where is the extra time/resources coming from? Like everything it’s not as straightforward as it once was-I’d add that grounds ‘dressed like a gangster’ would not be lawful.

What does "dressed like a gangster" actually look like, there's many a gangster that's worn a suit.

Now a lot more of this incident is known I have been thinking how 1 person with a knife can cause so much terror on a train.

It's going to be hard to comprehend how anyone would feel or react in that situation and it's understandable how most people would freeze or run if they could.

But, we all know the layout of the train it happened on. Seats either side of a narrow aisle.
Once he has passed seats, admittedly slashing his knife around, he is vulnerable to an attack from behind.

One hard push and he's on the floor.

Let's say for example, it's a train with lots of football fans mixed in with other passengers. If someone ran through shouting bollocks and is obviously trouble, I doubt he would have got very far, knife or no knife.

I can see 2 things coming from this, the travelling public being inconvenienced further, and paying more for tickets to pay for extra staff.

Not trying to be arsey at all, just trying to understand.

I must admit though, some of the passengers interviews have come across like youtubers or influencers.
I wasn't comfortable watching them tbh and prefer the facts delivered from a reporter rather than these eye witness accounts.

I'm surprised the interviews have been allowed to be broadcast actually considering the **** was arrested and charged.

When these attacks happen they are generally in places where people are vulnerable or against vulnerable persons themselves. I don’t know if mental health issues will be cited as a mitigating factor however I’ve always said that the perpetrators of these kind of attacks always seem to have enough cognitive skills not to choose a football match or walk into an MMA gym or event where they’ll be a fair amount of both men and women willing to take them on.

On your point about tackling him, firstly until it happens to you, you don’t know how you’d react, secondly every personal protection instructor I’ve known have all said when confronted with a knife the best course of action is to run.

The only safe way to take a knife from an attacker if you are unarmed is if they attack you in a way you have practised defending against many hundreds of times. Even then you are relying on keeping your balance and them reacting exactly as the attacker reacted in training. The chances of that happening are somewhere south of fuck all, so run like fuck is the best advice. As an instructor of mine once said "you can get a new watch, phone and wallet a lot easier than you can get new internal organs".

So, not skin color, but choice of clothing.

Got it!

Can they stop me while driving if my sweater is offensive, too?

What we should all care about is that nobody should be going around spreading misinformation on social media as the consequences of that can be dangerous. The Southport murders are testament to that - some randomer thousands of miles away claimed the suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker who had arrived on a boat. That led to riots in Southport and all over the country with Muslims and mosques being targeted. Even when it was disclosed that the perpetrator was a British born national who wasn't a Muslim, people still continued to riot and target the Muslim community plus other persons of colour like the black guy who got beat up in Piccadilly Gardens by a baying mob, and the police also got attacked as well. And all because of some stupid lie that people fell for. Yet many still haven't learnt as the same shit played out on Saturday night following this incident - luckily there haven't been any riots though.

You're absolutely right that being British born or not doesn't lessen or worsen the crime that has been committed but the point people are trying to make is that it's not helpful to jump to conclusions and spread them all over social media. I'm guessing that Lee Crooks doesn't have a huge social media following but neither did the randomer who came out with the lie about the Southport killer. Once it's out there it has the potential to go viral.
I don't know who first said it, but the saying is that 'a lie is halfway round the world before the truth has got its' boots on', was never more apt than it is in our social media driven times.

Every long term study of stop and search in the UK and US has shown it to be ineffective at reducing knife crime.

Doesn't work, alienates the communities that get stopped and searched more than others. That's why it's falling out of favour, not because the police can't be bothered.

Likely Jonathan Swift in 1710.
“Besides, as the vilest Writer has his Readers, so the greatest Liar has his Believers; and it often happens, that if a Lie be believ’d only for an Hour, it has done its Work, and there is no farther occasion for it. Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it; so that when Men come to be undeceiv’d, it is too late; the Jest is over, and the Tale has had its Effect…”
