Hyped transfers who turned out to be garbage

I think I'm still waiting for Bojinov to come good tbh. Emile Mpenza is the one that stands out for me though, just because he was possibly the best striker in the world on Champ Manager 01/02, which I played an ungodly amount as a kid, so when we signed him I knew it was fate that he'd be bagging 20 a season for us for the next 5 years, just as he had on my Champ manager save. Not quite how that turned out (to be fair, all his hype was in my own head, I don't think anyone who'd actually seen him play in the previous few years was remotely excited at the thought of him playing for City)

Now my istree isn't the but didn't Mpenza score a couple of crucial goals to keep us up? Seem to remember one against Middlesbrough?

Hatem Trabelsi. The season before he came, he was regarded as one of the best right backs around, he came on a free with high hopes but was constantly injured and did nothing except for scoring an absolute peach against the scum at the swamp.
He never played as a right back for us, did he? Was constantly played as a RM/RW?

is this only for City players ! i can think of many for other teams too, Birtles at the rags, saldado at spuds, there have been many over the years.

I meant City players yes.

Suggest we stick to that and if you want start a new thread in the general footy forum.

At a time when we couldn't afford anyone and had a major goals shortage, to say Mpenza was a disappointment was definitely not the case, scored some absolutely vital goals for us to keep us up.

Mpenza played a very large part in keeping us up in 06/07 bud, hype fully justified imo. Jesus of Nazareth couldn't have scored as many in that side.

'Buster' Phillips

Mikhal Khavelasvilli - Kinkladze saying he was better than he was...... I think you were lying Georgi.
