A more interesting question would’ve been how would it pan out if the old team existed today and were exposed to all the same fitness and coaching as today’s lads.

I don’t think Colin would have needed much nurturing. He would have been incredible in this team. The only one though.

It wasn't "mainly British", it was all English. There were very few overseas players back then in any top team.

Dowd/Mulhearn, Book, Pardoe, Doyle, Heslop, Oakes, Summerbee ,Bell, Lee, Young, Coleman. Sub David Connor.

Would the 68 team beat Chelsea, Palace, Leicester and Newcastle?

No. Totally different game now. I have a relative who played professional football in the 60s and 70s including several seasons in the old first division for a team who also played in Europe. He happily admits that any Premier League team would destroy the top teams from back then.

Any 68 team would be destroyed by any modern team.

Not only has football moved on, so has fitness.

Any 68 team would destroy a 37 team for instance. (But not by as much as science has moved more exponentially between 68 and 2019 than 1937 to 1968)
