I don't get arena gigs

Fully agree with the OP. Ironically, I recall seeing pics of bands playing arenas in the US back in the 70's .... Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin etc, and always thought they looked great. Was quite envious then.

Realistically, as the OP says, they are absolutely soulless. And I don't see the point in paying £daft to be so far from the stage, that you watch most all the gig on the screens at the side of said stage.

The Manc Arena/Nynex/whatever you wish to call it is even worse than most, as the acoustics are notoriously shocking unless front centre.

It would take something like my beloved Cheap Trick supported by Prince, Led Zeppelin and Jeff Buckley to get me back into one. ;-)

Quite interesting Prince when he played G-Mex which had a much worse reputation for acoustics than the train station arena absolutely fucking smashed it. Even though he was in his contract dispute with Sony it was one of the best gigs I’ve been to as was Simon and Garfunkel at the train station, I presume a lot depends on the sound engineers and mixers.

It depends on the venue and the seat you get. I always prefer smaller venues and most of the bands I like do those, but I went to see Peter Gabriel earlier this year, my seat was near the roof in the Gods and further from the stage from anywhere else in the Birmingham International Arena. I presented my ticket when entering the entrance, and the lady asked if I was alone. i said I was, so she offered me a free ticket swap which left me in a much better position. Save me over £100, bargain!

Is it the arena thing or is it it getting tickets early 70's you queued up for them, now its a fucking lottery.
Always get Levellers tickets and Ian Mcnabb :-)

I hate gigs anywhere. Shite. Been to more gigs and night clubs than I have had hot dinners but overdosed and got tinnitus. I fucking hate tribute acts. Old men who never made it.

I have been to the MEN once and it was awful and souless

I have been in tents small venues, dance halls, ballrooms, fields and they have all been fantastic

give me the Apollo, Ritz, Ruby Lounge, Yes, BOTW, Albert Hall, night and day, even the old ducie bridge any day over an arena

And many more similar venues in Sheffield, liverpool, leeds, london

cannot see me ever entering the CO-OP one if honest

Does anyone agree?
Couldn't agree more. Small, intimate venues win out over cavernous auditoriums every time. Against my better judgement, a mate of mine once persuaded me to see Depeche Mode (yes, I know) at what was then the MEN Arena with the offer of free tickets. Our seats were so far away from the stage that the band appeared like tiny specks in the distance. I suppose I should have been thankful for small mercies!
Nah, give me up close and personal with a band like the UK Subs in a sweaty little venue every time.

Do you get invited to many parties?

Just asking.
