I have just been told.............Update page 39

Re: I have just been told.............

Bentley will never fill his potential unless he drastically changes his attitude. Huge ego, thinks he is miles better than he is at the moment. No doubt he is a decent player when he turns up, but most of the time he's utterly average. Whether Hughes and his staff can turn that around I highly doubt. Terrible signing if true.

the way Bentley was playing for Hughes at Rovers he would have played for nearly every side in the big4 nevermind the rest

Yet none of them were interested.

Wonder why?

Re: I have just been told.............

The media has turned against Bentley since his move to Spurs (not that he is entirely without blame for this of course) and the lad clearly needs a move away from London to kick start his career - had heard Villa and Everton were interested in taking him, but only on loan as a permanent move is seen as too much of a risk.

I guess we dont need to worry about paying the money though the figure being quoted does sound pretty crazy but if anyone knows what he is capable of its Hughes so maybe he considers it a risk worth taking.

If he can reproduce this kind of form then I dont think too many people will be complaining..

cant see us paying 10mill plus petrov, but do think this deal will happen at a lower figure, petrov is an out and out left winger does not like to track back to much short game is not the best but is quick and delivers a decent ball on the move

bentley can deliver decent ball on the move, has decent short game, deadly from set plays, can play in the middle or the right of midfield and when he has his head on will work hard, he is more suited to our current squad of players than petrov in my opinion due to his flexability in midfield.

we know petrov wants out i can see him becoming a pain in the arse if he does not play and he stays, we know bentley can be a bit of a berk but so can bellamy but hughes seems to be able to get the best out of these players.

one more thing it is not a coincidence that RSC best season was with bentley dropping balls on his head with pinpoint accuracy when they were together at blackburn

for me it is a no brainer petrov out
bentley in

best post on this thread, totally agree with this
dont like him as a person but Bentley would be a perfect squad player for us at this moment in time

Re: I have just been told.............

An on form David Bentley is indeed a terrific player, his season under Hughes was his best ever so if Mark thinks he could get the best out of him again then it is worth a go. Petrov is finished here so we will just have to get used to it.

As for the personality attacks on Bentley I refer us all to the no, no, no merchants (myself included) who slagged the hell out of Craig Bellamy before he even put the shirt on.

Let's trust Mark Hughes and Garry Cook as see what happens. It might not even be true.

I agree as well. Bentley would add another dimension to our team, a player that can pick out devastating passes and crosses.

Imagine away at Stoke being able to play RSC and Adebayor up front and hammering pin point crosses into them. we dont have a player anywhere near as accurate as him as much as people wont admit it. Id be happy with the deal. Petrov is a mard arse. Bentley has a point to prove and will work hard rather than sulk.

Re: I have just been told.............

I agree that bentley is potentially a very good addition to the squad, and that an unhappy petrov is bad news. but this deal has far too many down sides. if we can accomodate robbie on the left, we could accomodate petrov when he robbie is out, or width down the left becomes a priority. if that's not possible due to petrov's feelings, I can't see why we should be happy to be without any left footed attacking player. and worse of all, petrov is perfect for spurs, twitcher is a master at getting the most out of 'past-it' and 'moody' players, and this years spurs team already look like they are going places.
