I like Mark Hughes ...

I wasn't particularly excited when we appointed Hughes as manager, and at times last season he left me exasperated (particularly with the away form, which was indisputably woeful) but on the whole I was on his side.

There were glimpses of better times ahead with our performances at Eastlands and, well, I was sick and tired of us changing manager all the time. He's certainly endeared himself to me (not that that really matters, of course) with his handling of the media and he seems to be pretty focused, not taking shit off players or rival managers, including Ferguson.

Next season there will be an inordinate amount of pressure on him, but he seems to be handling well thus far. My only concern is that every time we don't win some fans will scream that he's not up to the job. That's just the nature of modern football fans I guess.

The owners have clearly given him their full backing, so it would be nice if the fans did so too (which I think on the whole they have). That's not to say he's beyond criticism, far from him. But we're got a veritable shitstorm of negative publicity heading our way next season from all quarters, so we need to group together and judge his performance in May, not before.

Wheres the blue gone from your name?

You obviously didn't look too closely at the matchday forum after our occasional defeats last season, which I find unusual as you were posting on there. There were several times last season when the Hughes supporters were made to feel like idiots by some of those of an opposite persuasion. If you think it didn't happen, you're wrong.

Hughes copped heaps (often with justification, sometimes without), but supporters of Hughes got off lightly compared to those that shared their opinion that he wsn't the man to take us forward.

Don't pretend that wasn't the case.
But it was I was swore at told I was all sorts but the out brigade. Most of the Hughes supporters would come out with reasons only to be shot down by a tirade of insults. The "out" people just simply wouldn't listen to sense and when the WUMS posted that the Special One tm was coming it got worse.

The reality is that a number of fans want absolutely instant success and I cant think of any examples where this has happened, even with shed loads of cash. This will now be compounded by the press being all over us like a nasty rash next season (we need to be thick skinned) every time we dont win. Subject to us signing one/two central defenders MH has his dream team and I would suggest we give him 2 seasons with it - anyone agree?

It seems likely, based on the ADUG comments, that he'll lose his job if we dont finish in the top six anyway but surely 5th/6th is where we should be aiming for this season?

I've never liked Hughes, and never thought he should be 'one of us'!! However, I obviously want us to do well!!

So my opinion is....we do well, I'm happy!! We don't do well...Hughes is sacked....I'm happy!!

I'm not a HUGHES OUT person, or anything! I'm a CITY DO WELL person, and if that means having Hughes here, then so be it! And I'll support him. But he has alot of making up to do from last season!!

The guy is an ultimate pro. One of the reasons he left the rags. I will back him, and have so far. Though he is not Mr personality.

Surely if we do well then fantastic and if we dont do well then get behind the team/manager, rather than suggesting he's sacked??

Forget the history, hes our manager now and, dare I say it, probably cares about the club so lets give him support.

In my opinion, I agree with this if we want long term success, it's a must. But maybe its a changed world in football so hard to get support on this level.
