I worry about Kolarov

you seem to be one of them to be honest!! Good steady player Baines 10x the player that Bridge is and I would'nt be upset to see him at our place!! It would be nice to have a full back who could be trusted to play there instead of having to be shifted forward every time we play a decent side!!!

Yeh probably on the basis of what they've seen on MOTD - I was cringing at how OTT they were going after his performance against Chelsea.

However if Leighton Baines can't get into the full England squad ahead of Ashley Cole, Wayne Bridge, Warnock - then why the f*ck is he good enough for us ? Two - three years ago I would have agreed but not now.

I'm afraid I would side with City's scouts who identified we needed a left back (who could have gone for Baines) over some of your mates down the pub who've probably only ever seen Leighton Baines play half a dozen times. (at most)

Not read the whole thread. Not trying to jump on his back too soon but he simply isn't good enough if we are looking to challenge at the very top. As people have said, poor defensively, no pace. When you sign a left back for 17 million pounds, it is beyond belief that he doesn't tick either of these boxes. As for being renowned for set pieces, his corner taking can be shocking. Yeah he offers something going forward but that job comes second to his defensive duties.

Just told you I've seen him plenty of times in the flesh!!! Does it mean coz my opinion is different it's wrong!!!! And the left backs you mentioned it's no insult to be behind Cole in the pecking order and Bridge and Warnock aren't in the same league as him!!

I dont give two of them if he plays for England,Kuwait, Faero Isles , get my point about Internationals? doesnt make them any good, does it? Tried and tested for me. I never said you were wrong just that I fundamentally disagree, in fact you've made my point for me. If Bridge is not in the same league as Baines then why has he consistently been selected ahead of Baines for the England team in Coles absence.

And that's not my opinion or of your 'dozens' of City mates down the pub, that's the view of the people at the top of the English game (and to be fair far more qualified than you or I) who have scouted for the best left backs in the country and chosen Bridge consistently ahead of Baines.

Now, if Bridge is sh*t as so many blues would have you believe then what does that make Baines on the basis that he can't get in the England team ahead of him....?

One last point I would question how or why you would have seen Baines in the flesh so many times when you are a City fan....!?

Yes and I qualified the 'international' point by saying its not as simple as a player being an 'international' however if they are selected for their country and lets face it George Weah played for Liberia (was sh*t for us but a world renowned striker in his day) was an international and therefore playing against the best and tested against the best (the same can't be said for Leighton Baines at this present time).

As for your glib soundbites like the 'pace of a slug', 'can't defend' they are just cheap unsubstantiated nonsence not backed up by the facts. Kolarov has been a fundamental part of one of the best defences in the premiership - unless you think Vincent Kompany has been doing the defending for all four positions - so your statement is just not borne out of reality.

Defending is not all about pace, its awareness, good positioning, anticipation, keeping your shape, intelligence and being very good on the ball and Kolarov has these in abundance, its just a shame that on the basis of Matt Phillips putting the ball round him on one occasion in one match he sudddenly 'can't defend' its complete nonsense.

That said I'm certain we've not seen the best of him and he will get better which is a great thought.

The sad thing is that the 'boo boys' no doubt those who claim ' he's dogsh*t and other such insightful descriptions will be keen to do their usual hatchet job on one of their own players and destroy the confidence of the player such that we will never see the best of him.

As stated I think he (baines ) ticks all your boxes to qualify as a decent left back . Mancini employs Kolorov as a wing back ,as he played there in Italy.He is getting knocked on football forums for more than one piece of bad play ,surely you can see that . I do hope he gets better ,for City to succeed , we defend as a team ,fair play to Barry and Zab covering on Sunday . Remember his corners,crosses ,crap shot with two men 1ft from net , its not just the one incident is it. He stands off too much for me,even when there was cover in recent games . Lets hope we are both crowing about him Thursday , for all the right reasons ,and rise above someone having a differing opinion your last comment was crass about the so called supporters mate, CTID.
