ID cards.

If you use it once a year why would you carry around a passport?
Should of explained.
I live in Spain and they are mandatory nobody has a problem carrying them it's just part of life its there when asked for.
Unlike the little scrotes who walk and drive around the UK with no identification

Your smart phone has been doing that for a long time now.
I don’t think smart phones track government pensions/benefits/driving licences/criminal records/travel details/banking details/money transfers … that’s what the one log in ID card will do.

A lot of fear there of little scrotes. What will ID cards do about them?

So what has it fixed in Spain?

Stops them buying mobile phones you can't buy one without ID.
If they don't have it they get find the police don't have to spend hours tracking there false details.
Fingerprints on file must help as it did after I was broken into they had him within twelve hours.
I have nothing to hide so no problem

My problem with that is that if carrying id is compulsory then you're giving free reign to stop and search powers.

I'm happy to provide id if there is a valid reason, but I think people should be legitimately worried about giving up that sort of power. Particularly if you look a bit different, act a bit different or have a different colour skin. History shows us that's not a thing we want to happen in the country.

We have all nationalities in Spain a lot from other European countries who carry ID cards .
We all know that Spain can be quite a racist country on the whole but if you have ID and it can be confirmed within minutes who you are and where your from if you have a criminal record for instance.
If you don't have one you shouldn't be here and can be delt with only those without them have anything to fear

I have nothing to fear from being stopped (I have a passport and a residents permit I can provide if needed) and I wish people would stop with this line because it just isn't the reason most people are opposed to the idea.

While I have nothing to fear I also want to be free to go about my business without being stopped by someone from the government and made to prove that I'm allowed to exist.

I also know that people with darker skin, people that look a bit different or alternative will be stopped more than others.

We know that there is a racist element in the police force and I have no doubt ID cards will be used to target people that dont look gammony enough for some of our authorities.

Doesn't matter about colour if your a wrong un shows what you have been up to and the police know what to look for.
If your a good boy it's on your way.
I understand they are not everybody's cup of tea but personally I can't see the harm if you have nothing to hide

You keep talking about "nothing to hide". Which tells me you don't really grasp any of the points people are making in opposition to ID cards.

And if you have left it at home? Do the have to go to the police station at a later date and show it? I see a flaw there.... Or do you get arrested for not having it?

Yes, they cant legally buy a phone. These are people who deal in illegality though.

There are many ways to deal with forgetting it a member of family can bring it photos of it sent to the police most people have a mobile today.
Personally I have photos of mine on my phone a photo copy in my car then there is fingerprint recognition.

Fair enough mate it's all about opinions you don't want them I don't really care either way
I have one and think if you asked any police officer if it helped do there job I think the answer would be yes.
I get what you say about privacy but hackers are into every day
