IFAB plans to end time-wasting.

Why have they won?

Call it a day all you like. You currently see between 47-52 minutes of football per game.

Not sure why you’d call it a call because you’re forced to watch more football.

I played amateur football for 30 years. Every game was 45 minutes each way. No wasting time, no play acting 45 fucking minutes each way.

So because professionals waste time the game should be reduced to 30 minutes each way ? Exactly what the ****s want. Defend for an hour instead of an hour and a half.

The answer is simple. Penalise the time-wasters not the good teams.

But it isn’t 45 minutes each way.

There’s been no game in history with the ball in play more than 65 minutes even with zero time wasting and most with far less.

Amateur football would be lucky to get 55 minutes of “in play” play.

Ha ha, I'm not sure about that. Either way, it takes me two hours to get there and two hours to get home. As I say, if it goes to 30 minutes each way the game will have developed beyond my tastes and I'll be out.

The game would last the same amount of time.

Next Sunday league game. Take a stop watch and see how long it’s in play mate.

The change to 30 mins in play each half means that your team is never cheated by time wasting and sportsmanship again.

It doesn't anyway in 99% of cases.

A clock that stops for throw-ins, free kicks, corners, goal kicks etc is the way forward & if the game takes over 110 mins ignoring injuries then the team (s) responsible get a fine then points deduction.

this might just work but traditional English managers will cry that the game is not fair to them.

Also, if the clocks were used for time wasting,it will sort out the time wasting however it will bring tactical time wasting in the game which is currently done by feigning injury or mix ups at substitutions.

Momentum is a great thing in football and tactical time wasting will become more frequent as the managers would say, they can't be blamed for time wasting as time is being added on anyway. But slowing down a teams momentum by time outs using whatever means would be a problem.

The thing is, there are always existing laws to deal with these things, but the moment anyone suggests the referee enforces any of them, there are howls of outrage. It's the same as dissent - if you tried what the pros get away with on a Sunday morning, you'd spend half your life on the sidelines and paying fines.

No backchat to the ref is easy to enforce. You'd have one week of sides down to 8 players and then they'd learn. Same with time-wasting. Book someone for it in the first minute, then send them off 10 minutes later and before you know it everyone would be scurrying around to get the ball back in play.

But they never will. So they come up with a "plan".

Bit like the diving, they were supposed to be clamping down on. They're not fit to run a bath.
They're not bothered about the game, just the money.

30 minutes a half of the ball in play sounds right. No Tim Howard style gk time wasters, no point in faking injury to run the clock down, no pretending to take a throw then dropping it for another player, no drifting out to the furthest point away from the dugouts when about to be subbed, no shonky refs playing on til united score.....; just a clock running only when the ball is in play. Job done.
