I disagree.I think some supporters just have an ability to see things without the need to wear the blue tinted specs.

Its no coincidence that your idea of a whipping boy is my idea of a weak link.

Gundogan was good in the Community shield,today he was very poor.

It might be some of Fern's rescue situations were self inflicted but also he had to cover others mistakes & did it expertly.

A lot of players were undrcooked today & it was especially a great win because of that imo.

My worry is that possibly whilst the others all go up a huge level, Gundogan remains the same fill in player, rather than the top notch one he was at Dortmund.

Interestingly, the match stats show Gundogan was more successful than Fern in duels, made more interceptions (Fern is not credited with any tackles or interceptions) and had a better pass completion on a very similar number of passes.

Watching the game, I thought both were below par but a few were and it is no surprise at this point. I don't think this is the game to single anyone out for criticism.

I noticed him get a foot in a few times including winning a ball in their half.

Fern however was getting goal side of fast attackers when holes appeared & making them pass it, stopping Arsenal from skinning us whilst Gundogan was drifting back too slow to affect the play.

Cracks me he is becoming one of our scapegoat players. Only goes to show how much quality is in this side. One of the poorer games I've seen him play but an excellent player none-the-less. Must be a pain in the ass playing with that mask on. At least he kind of looks like batman

It's not that he was bad per se....he just looks like a man without a position in this setup. If he's going to play the KDB role we need more directness out of him. He ticks the ball over just fine but can go missing far too easily as well.

You've just said he had a poor game yet are insinuating that others are making him a "scapegoat".

But folk are just saying he was poor, like you just did.

Honestly I only skimmed. Maybe scapegoat was wrong word. Imo he is definitely of the required quality. Am surprised he has yet to go on a killer run of form but I've been a big fan since his Dortmund days. Discuss all you want.
