He needs to be right on top of his game in order to do what is required & he isn't managing to stay on top of his game.

If he plays as Silva's replacement, he has to offer something to the team, to help us cope without Silva, likewise, if he replaces Fernandinho.

Knocking easy passes around in acres of space, is not replacing Fernandinho, it's replacing a quarter of his game.

We need a lot more.

I’ve not looked at other threads mate, however I’d be astonished if Delph wasn’t getting pelters.

However, in the main, some of the guys like Raz and Leroy have been excellent for most of this season so can be excused the odd bad game, whereas Gundo has been utter dogshit for practically his entire City career. There lies the difference. It’s not a new drum I’m banging.

This. I will excuse any player for having a bad game, if their number of good games far outweigh the bad ones. Gundogans problem is that his bad games outnumber his good games by about 10 to 1.

Only if this were true. But the problem here is that its false. :\

I don't want to pile on because he seems like a nice guy who works hard for the team, but I don't see a long term future for him with us. He clearly doesn't have what it takes from a defensive or ball winning standpoint to play the six for us, and at the eight, while a very useful squad player to have, he's clearly fourth best out of KDB, Dave and Bernardo. He should be moved on this summer to let Phil fully integrate into the squad.

We need a top class alternative 6. then if Gundogan stays, he should be the alternative, alternative, alternative.

With Fernandinho missing, DS missing, Bernardo needing a rest & KDB not match sharp, these are the moments where Gundogan, who is now fully match fit, steps up & says "I've got this".

Even if we lose, we should be impressed by him, if he is a City player. This is his chance, now.

Keep in mind also that he's only under contract until 2020. If we decide against offering him a new deal this summer its moving time for him anyway. If we sign a DM in the next window or two that person can cover the number 8 in the event of injuries as well; Fernandinho is still going to play a decent amount of games next year.

If that £50m Barcelona offer was genuine, then we missed a bloody decent payday for such a non-entity.
