I can't agree with that, his role is mostly just winning the ball back, and playing it simple, but I think when he can (does) he does some fantastic forward passes.

Enjoy watching Gundoan but he never looks quite as effective when he is pushed forward, between the lines, and has to play the game with his back to the goal or on the turn; Silva, Bernardo, and Sterling are far more comfortable doing that. Far better when he is facing the play and spraying passes around or threading passes through.

Agree. He just isn’t suitable for the forward role. He does a decent job at cdm.

I think he needs to play with a Silva at 8 if he's going to play off the striker. Alongside Bernardo or David I think he's better because they will stay central and control the game while he gets into the box and links up with the striker, but KDB likes to roam around, dropping deep and drifting out wide, and when that happens we're left with a hole in midfield.

Tbf, there were plenty of games last season with the Fernandinho-Gundogan-KDB triangle where we (and all three of them in particular) were very good.
