Ilkay Gundogan - 2018/19 performances

The match thread was all over him despite the fact that KDB and Fern were repeatedly giving the ball away at the time.

He didn't have a great game but he has been in very good form. If you listen to the experts here, he has veen poor ever since we bought him, in every game!

Average by what standard? He was up against a side who have 11 points all season and who were also missing their best midfielder. If he can’t stand out (in a positive way) against shite like Huddersfield, he might as well call it a day. The quality of our midfield play drops off a cliff whenever he starts.
That is such a biased comment when the whole team were up against said side and no one stood out

Thankfully, against the lesser teams,we're too good overall to be hurt by his lack of influence.

I don't dislike the lad,i just think he lacks the 'goods' - He doesn't seem like a City player,he doesn't feel like a part of the family to me.

Pep likes him though,so it seems he isn't going anywhere.

That's a bit scouse FI. He seems like a very popular member of the dressing room to me.

As for his performance yesterday, meh but on a par with the rest tbf and at least he was making good forward runs in that first half, about the only was on a consistent basis.

Our 'quality' starts with our midfield and dominating the ball. When we do this, we have complete control of the game. When the midfield are not at the races, the rest of the side never looks as good.

I have already stated that I thought Fern was below par but for me the mitigating circumstance was that he had two 8s continuously running away from him and the ball, the complete opposite of having a David Silva in there, who is continuously moving towards the action. KDB was poor but the guy has been out all season, it is unrealistic to expect him to come back in and be at full throttle. I have no excuse for Gundogan, because his performance was almost a carbon copy of everything else we have seen previous, the only thing missing was a goal or assist to mask his otherwise terrible performance.

Poor team performance about from two 15 minute spells which they couldn't live with. He's never going to be at the level of the Silva's or KDB but he's a great squad player to have. He probably knows that he's not going to first choice but he just gets on with it and usually contributes. Some will always need a hate figure that they can go to in their time of need and unfortunately a few on here a chose Gundo.
