He was better than both KDB and Fernandinho and I think yesterday's game is hard to judge because as a team we massively played within yourself.
He's been fine recently so this criticism of him is unbelievably harsh.
What did he do which was, well anything at all, at any time ?
I saw him intercept a ball 2nd half when Fern lost it shortly before he went off.
Anything else ?
Should we mention his forward runs ? He did that for a short while, Fern tried to find him & it looked like it would work sooner or later, eventually succeeded & he headed the ball to the keeper then stood there holding his head.
Then he stopped making so many runs.
Effective on 2nd balls ? No. Creative passes ? No. Keeping the ball moving ? No. He was stood marked most of the time barely ever moving between the lines to receive a pass (KDB also tbf) & Fernandinho had the collective creative genius of Kyle Walker, Danilo & Otamendi to pass to, so half the time was trying to force through passes which weren't there.
First attack 2nd half, the ball came to Danilo on the left, he looked up, forward, to the little hole that you would expect a top midfielder to drop into, & Gundogan was just stood there, 10 yards away from the 'hole' next to a defender, moving nobody, doing fuck all, not taking part in the game at all. Danilo waited. Nothing. Passed the ball backwards.
The midfield consisted of one man.
KDB has been out half a year injured. Gundogan hasn't.
I don't know in what world, anyone can view Gundogan's contribution in that game as acceptable.
