Gundogan is superior when it comes to the playmaking but he's powderpuff where enforcement is concerned and required,as was needed on a few occasions last night

I don’t know who's positional play is better, some of Gundogan's interceptions are top drawer but largely go unnoticed. Fernandinho on the other hand has them recovery sprints and no holds barred, tough tackles that Gundo just doesn't have.

Yes, he should have done better there.

But in that context don't leave out that Kyle was sittin on his arse in the other box
and David wasn't arsed to follow Maguire and much too late trying to close down Maddison.

Nope. Not close. Fernandihno s the best at closing with speed and intensity. But reading the play and positioning? Not even close. And it's both offensively and defensively. On offense he is permanently open for a outlet pass and on defense. he just knows exactly how to squeeze space to make interceptions highly likely.

He has 1/10th of Dihno's aggression, yet intercepts the ball at the similar rates. That should clue anyone in in his positioning skills.

Fernandinho has been the better and more consistent player for us by far. Nobody is disputing that. (I think)
I also consider Fernandinho to be World class.
That being said. Your statement is complete hyperbole.
Ferandinho is world class because he has virtually no weaknesses. Not because he is "the best in the world" at some generalised aspect of the game.
Yes. In certain area's and certain phases of play Fern anticipates situations better than Gundo. But not all of them. Not even close.
When we are pushing high up the pitch with big spaces around and behind us, Gundogan positions himself markedly better than Fern IMO.
Both from a playmaking perspective as the perspective of preventing counterattacks, frustrating passing lanes, shadowmarking forwards, etc...
When it comes to smaller spaces (especially in our own half) Fern is definately more effective. Closing down players, Covering fullbacks, outright manmarking, etc...
Fern is better at fixing problems, Gundo seems to have the edge when it comes to preventing problems.
Both have similar merrit from a defensive standpoint.
If there is no truth to what I'm saying then we should become a weak defensive mess whenever we play Gundogan instead of Fernandinho.
That is simply not the case.
It's just that the whole preventing problems thing doesn't seem to register as defending in England for some reason. Even with some City fans.
Which is strange because prevention is the reason we concede a LOT less goals than the "big and stronk" teams.

I agree with your views regarding Gundogan but you do have the odd taste for hyperbole as well. ;-)
I think a lot of these endless discussions are caused by the fact that you all seem to have a strong focus on different phases of the game.
As an example... Your statements might seem very strange to somebody who is focussed on defence as something you do in front of your own goal.
We might spend most of our time far away from our own goal but it is still a very important part of the game when considering a player's positional prowess.
Gundugan is better at positioning than Fernandinho is just as untrue as it's counterpart because they are both better at different aspects of it.
