When he starts, we struggle, no matter who he is partnered with.
Not true.
He has talent but he is slower than most. Shooting inconsistent. i know he's Pep's favourite or one of them and we mustn't criticise Pep because in comparison we know nothing, but it ain't a disgrace to criticise or comment.
Some truth in there, but you’re missing what he brings to the team. He is not to be compared with players he isn’t, because the comparison is flawed. He is the grease that keeps the wheels ticking over. He can find the pass, or chip, and he is excellent at spreading the play with both feet. It is inconceivable to me that a player that Pep values, and who plays for Germany, can be criticized so much because he isn’t ______! He isn’t there to be that, just as Kyle Walker isn’t in the team to score goals or take corners or free kicks.
I've always maintained that he should be a bench warmer and come on when the game is won. Starting him against Chelsea was only going to go one way.
Silly hindsight. We were dominating the game and he wasn’t at fault for either goal.
His fuck up with Mendy was a comical moment the scousers will love for a few seasons to come . Our slippy Gerrard moment.
“HIS” fuck up??? That was ALL Mendy!! Gundogan waved him off, but Mendy insisted. Then, instead of the easy ball back to Ederson, he just tapped it behind Gundo?! Mendy has some kind of mental dysfunction!
Having said that we still had chances to beat them and the scousers will be thanking Sterling
Finally! You finally stumbled upon the issue! Fought back against an “against the run of play” 1-0 to get to 1-1. Totally dominating, best fast break for ages and Sterling did what Sterling does...miss a sitter! We would have 2-1 up, running the game and able to play OUR game. Instead, Chelsea bring on rabbits, start playing long balls to pin us back and we lose ALL THE MOMENTUM we had built from our possession play and goal opportunities.
if there was a “Gerrard slip” moment in that game, it was Sterling not burying his chance or passing to Jesus who was wide open...your choice!
The level of Gundogan hate on here is ridiculous. Yes, he’s on the wrong side of 30. Yes, he isn’t going to win many sprints against Mount, Pulisic, Kante or Barkley. Yes, he was involved in Mendy’s brain fart. But, none of that was why we lost, and HE is definitely not the reason why we lost!
We played a rotating false 9 against Chelsea. That required using two midfield anchors so we didn’t get caught short in the middle of the 5 on the park for them. It worked for a long time.
We played a modified 4-4-2, with the 2 upfront playing wide and the 2 floating midfielders (Bernardo on the left & KDB on the right) rotating in and out of the middle, depending upon possession and press. That left TWO midfielders (Gundo & Rodri) to help dictate play when we had the ball, and to both hold the middle of the park AND shuffle & cover the LM & RM positions should we lose the ball and be a bit exposed.
Regardless, while I’m not arsed whether he stays or goes, I think it does Gundogan a disservice when fans not only don’t recognize the contribution he gives to the TEAM, but use lazy stereotypes to have a go at him.
Pep and Löw have recognized his quality. It’s a shame some of our fans can’t.
