in the #8 position, foden is better. in the #6 position, rodri is better. mystery why gundogan plays so much.
Foden better than Gundogan ?
Part of me wants us to drop Gundogan to play Foden , lose two on the spin and then all the doom mongers ( of which there are plenty on here and at the match ) could switch the boo boy status to Phil .
All the amateur managers on this site are far more knowledgeable than Pep and can’t understand his blind spot to Gundogan ?
Clowns one and all

Some over the top criticisms of Gundo. He wasn't bad at all. We were great in possession and attack and he was part of that. He was a bit unlucky not to score. Foden will get his chance soon. There is a reason why Pep plays Gundo. He likes him as a player and personality.

It seems to me that those desperate to see an academy player in the starting XI barely pay attention to our EDS and U18 teams. The EDS and academy thread is extremely quiet. And it's not like the academy isn't brimming with talent.

if you seriously think replacing de bruynes partner , gundogan for foden would make us lose two on the bounce... with the rest of the undeniable quality we have going forwards...

sterling aguero mahrez gundogan de bruyne rodri

sterling aguero mahrez foden de bruyne rodri

you think one of these beats dynamo Zagreb and wolves, and the other loses both???

Point is Pep knows what he is doing. Gundo was fantastic in the run in and greatly contributed to those 14 wins in a row which made us champions.

what's it with blues and agendas...

there were 3 players on the bench (silva, silva and foden) yesterday who are better than him in that position. if anyone can explain why pep would choose him, otherwise it remains a mystery.

it would make more sense to me if he benched rodri given how many minutes rodri will have to play this season and how good gundogan was the back end of last season as a #6

Are you basing your assertion on what you saw in training all week, the knocks or any ailments players might be carrying, the opposition and the tactics or just your assumed player status - gen Q?

Pep picks teams to win games, not satisfy keyboard managers (not a dig btw). No one on here has any indication as to what goes on during the weeks preparations to decide who is the best athlete for each game. Keyboard managers also tend (imo) to focus on one game at a time whereas Managers in general, and in particular Pep will have a broader horizon than that.

Yes, I am stating the obvious, because it is.

Where did I say I think we WOULD lose?

The main issue with gundogan is his speed & energy! He’s a quality player when given time the problem is younger hungrier midfielders stroll past him.

He should never play in an away game against aggressive teams!

Yes Foden will make more mistakes & that’s because he will fight for the ball more and want it more. He will also chase back much more.

Foden over gundy every day for me

Like Everton? what about home games against "aggressive teams"

There is a widespread belief on here that promoting a consistently fulsome appreciation of Gundogan's talents indicates a poster with genuinely superior knowledge of the modern game. Those of us who rely on the evidence of his contribution in cruder terms like his impact on the match result, general involvement in attacking the opposition etc are clearly missing the point.
