he's a different player than David playing a more defensive position. Foden or Mahrez stepping up for minutes is the far better option.Pep's doing his usual exaggeration but hypothetically, if we won the CL with that Rodri-Gundogan midfield pairing then he'd be up there as one of our best transfers.
A player who would start for every other club in the league, for £20m, who played every game of that vital 14 game winning streak to beat Liverpool and was one of our best players doing it...he's been a great purchase.
Also he's 28, so the same age Yaya was when he arrived. Still a long way to go in his City story. When Silva leaves, he might start a lot more games.
Pep wumming Bluemoon. Un accepted able!!! Pep out!PEP @IlkayGuendogan, you cannot believe how good he is. He is an exceptional player. He plays different positions and his work ethic. I missed him a lot in first year when he was out for six months. He's one of best signings in this Club's history.
Hmmm
You’ve somewhat summed up the way I see Gundogan. Lovely player on his day but can be equally frustrating; mind numbingly frustrating. I also think that his game has been somewhat influenced by the injuries he’s had in the past which now affects how he operates with the ball.
Don’t think we ever got to see Dortmund Gundy at City. Nonetheless, I’ll support him till he stops playing for the club.
See what happens when you play goal threats and the point I’m making @mosssideblue :-)
Took Phil about 67 seconds.
In my opinion Gundogan is a polished accomplished footballer who is actually more suited to the team than Foden. Pep Guardiola is the best manager on the planet at the moment and if thinks Gundogan is a decent player who he trusts then who I’m I to argue, but hmmm what do I know
Depends on how we are set up. If it's to break down defences sat deep with the play in front he is. But if it's to catch teams on the counter hes woeful. Slows the play down chronically and is absolutely awful in the tackle. My nan puts more oomph into it. He just doesnt do it for me though, and I find myself wishing for the player who battered barca.
This is absolutely a vailid point.
Not just re Gundogan either. We moved the ball around brilliantly last night, but for the most part there was absolutely no point.
It will be a mistake, to go down that road imo. We had, Sané, Sterling, Jesus as the evolution of City. Pace at both fullbacks etc. Foden, as you say, offers a goal threat, KDB firing in killer passes, etc.
Medium pace or slow footballers, many of whom don't finish much, all flicking the ball to each other & going from one side to the other is not going to be enough & I hope we get back to the way we were going previously when everyone is fit & sign players accordingly.
Last night's result had a lot to do with poor finishing, especially from our best finisher, and a lot less to do with flicking the ball to each other. The latter would be a valid point if we didn't create many chances. Which we did. On another day it would've been 3:0 at half time.
