Inbred towns

Cleator Moor. The last significant influx of new folk to the gene pool was about 1880 and local gp's actually had a conference recently to discuss the long term health issues of incest/ inbreeding within the community.

Bridgewater in Somerset. I had a pitch at Bridgewater fair about 15 years ago selling stuff. I was amazed at the ugliness of the whole town and encountered lots of people with truly wierd things wrong with them. Also, trying to sell them anything was virtually impossible as they didn't have any money and couldn't really grasp what I was trying to say to them. I spoke to other traders who told me that a lot of them came from tiny hamlets in the hills round the town and appeared every year at the fair. I can only imagine what was going on with brothers, sisters, cousins etc. after the first day, it was on for three I was disturbed by the whole scene. I had never been, or haven't been anywhere since as wierd as there in my life. Needless to say I couldn't wait to pack up and do one, never to return again!
