indie music

Those were all known as 'alternative rock' bands at the time, Indie was never used to try and describe music over there, it was AR or College etc

Ive lived my entire life in the US and that is what we called it, that is what we referred to it as. Alternative rock was shit they played on MTV. Indie rock were groups flew under the radar of MTV because they were on labels that MTV wouldn't touch. I'm not trying to be a shit, that was just my experience growing up in texas. There was a big difference between indie bands and alternative rock.

Saw Twisted Wheel supporting Oasis and had hear of a few of their songs ages ago but not overly impressed.

To think Oasis once had the Verve in support.

that you give "you stole the sun" by twisted wheel a go

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.myspace.com/moco" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.myspace.com/moco</a>. Also "once bitten twice shy" by moco

for classic indie The Chameleons are right up there
The The are a must, but again not new

The Crimea, The Guillemots, Pete and the Pirates, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, The Macabees, The Paddingtons, The Rifles, Sky eats Airplanes, Team Waterpolo newish British stuff

Death Cab for Cutie, I was a Cub Scout, Jimmy Eat World, Rock kills Kid are all yank contenders I think

They're not new, but used to be "indie". If you haven't checked out Modest Mouse, give them a listen.

They took me a few listens to get into them, but now I think they're great.

I also agree with Vampire Weekend and Fleet Foxes. Also check out Arcade Fire, if you haven't before.
