Insulation and condensation saves the planet!

How do you insulate a conservatory, its mostly glass
You can insulate the roof and floor (I know as I've just done it) and triple glazed windows supposedly help too. There's no real discernible temperature difference between the conservatory and the rest of the house.

If I did the roof I would be living in perpetual darkness as it would take all my natural light away so I am going to have to put up with it. :(
Should still be lighter than any other room in the house due to all the windows I would have thought. We always had blinds on the roof glass anyway so it doesn't feel much darker than before now that we have an insulated roof.

It should be is the operative phrase. He lives in Dukingfield. Need I say more ?

With regard to condensation I've fitted PIV (positive input ventilation) units into a couple of our properties, and it has it has been very successful at curtailing the problem.

When people 'do their own research', and 'ask a builder' who supposedly knows from real life experience, then complain about having condensation issues, the OP question pretty much answers itself.

If there is one thing to learn from this thread, it is not to go commando with builds.

The world needs both experts from academia and the university of life aka experience.
Exactly. I have a lot of respect for most builders, prepared to put in physical graft day in, day out and to do a good job requires a lot of skill.

But there is the science of construction and that typically requires academic study and often the problem is the two worlds don't meet often enough.

This actual thread is a case in point. Often buildings have issues as contractors don’t fully understand the issues of thermal
bridging in buildings, requirement to adequately ventilate cold deck flat roofs or protect buildings from the damaging effects of moisture ingress in a building.

Also sadly people only see the role of the surveyor when they visit their property, so on rather small works. But that surveyors next visit could be checking the fire strategy in a 500 million pound hospital, the steel works on a football stand or the construction of a high rise block of flats/superstore/industrial building etc. Having a building background, is a lot less valuable, when looking at for example fire safety, than being able to sit down and look at how people will escape from a buildings, fire protection measures, impact on other buildings and interpret the complexities of the Building Regulations.
