Inter (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

It’s a shame you missed it pal as it was a real high quality match between two very evenly matched sides.

I was sat in a bar with the other screens showing PSG against Girona. I couldn't help glancing across at it from to time. Now you want to see shit, that was shit! Hackney Marshes level at times. Our game, by contrast, was cagey, but very technical.

So pleased I didn’t haul my sorry rotting carcass to The Etihad for the new format of The Champions League. Although listening to TNT wax lyrical and some people on here appreciating a “tactical masterclass” from Inter is mystifying. It shows why Serie A has been going backwards since the early 90’s. Some of their teams will occasionally bore the shit out of everyone all the way to a European final, but it’s rare. Both teams were poor and 0-0 was about right. Early season stuff. Now we just have to wonder if it was an ok result in this “new” format. If I wasn’t a City fan I’d have watched Coventry v Spurs.

A performance as insipid as that bloody awful kit. We moved the ball forward far too slowly, that's when we did go forward rather than to the side. There is also a marked reluctance to actually shoot when the opportunity ariises and elect for a pass instead.
They defended very well in great numbers but they only had to jog back in order to get everyone back as we crept forward. Luckily for us they were crap at shooting.
A disappointing result with a couple of tough away games to come.
Reluctant to shoot yet we had 22 goal attempts. Only three teams in this round have taken more shots.

In the league we are averaging 16.5 shots per game this season, with only Brighton having a better average at 16.8.

Last season we averaged 18.2 in the league and were second to Liverpool at 20.8.

City are not afraid to shoot but they do try to choose the moment. It has worked for us over several seasons.

Inter are no mugs and will qualify for last 16 with us. This was probably our hardest game and we just about did enough to justify winning. It also helps us prepare for Sunday rather than a routine 5-0 stroll as Arsenal will play the same way sitting deep though they aren’t as good as inter.

On another note the kit is awful, the ref was the usual CL standard, the time keeping was a joke and good to see Phil back. Roll on Sunday.

Each to their own but that's not an opinion myself nor anybody around me in the ground seemed to share. Half the south stand turned their attention to a beach ball for a large period in the second half, a crowd doesn't do that if they're witnessing a high quality match.
