I haven't followed your posts closely enough to know whether you have or you haven't - but it was more a general observation of the wider fixation with Sterling's England scoring record by so many is rather similar. I'll certainly agree Kane played extremely well last night.

I quoted it in his performance thread because strangely people called me out on there after last night. It isn't a great record is it for a player in his position and his talent. I think even he would agree with that. Hopefully it gets that weight off his shoulders to keep doing what he is doing. He scores for fun for us, playing as well as he does for us will only raise expectations on an international level.

Like I said from the brief highlights I watched it shown a lot more from Kane in them few minutes than what I had seen during the World Cup. I was hoping he could be praised but didn't see much in here. I know from Sterlings games for us there can be times he can score a vital goal but not necessarily play well that's why I couldn't go mad on his praises. From what I have read since it sounds like he played really well which is great to hear and I could watch his first goal all day.

Conversely, other than his two goals i thought his overall game wasn't great.Plenty of energy, but he was largely running into the wrong spaces or stumbling over his own feet.

Do you know why there is that difference ? Its pretty obvious to most.

Yes I get the difference, is there a no goal in 3 years kind of difference? No, the record is poor, it would be for any attacking player playing regularly for their country not just Sterling. That issue has now gone so not even worth a debate.

They showed his stats before kick off last night, since his last England goal he'd scored 34 times for City form 84 attempts on target, His run of games for England without scoring was due to only 4 shots on target in the 30 odd games for England.
The stats show that it's not his goal scoring that is the issue but the lack of chances we create. At least last night we created some, Barkley playing helped in that regard instead of Henderson, if we can find a truly creative player i think we'll see many more chances and goals. We got decent options up front, we just need something to knit it together.

As for Kane, excellent first half, poor second, was at fault for their first goal and didn't offer much though some of that was down to Southgate dropping us too deep and his subs didn't help matters either.

Good team performance though and something the young lads should be proud of.

Henderson created an amazing chance for him in the Sweden game which one on one he fluffed twice. Out of interest did it say how many shots he had off target? I fully accept England will create less chances than City but to be an attacking player as he is and not score for that length of time is poor. I don't know but does Salah play wide like he does for Liverpool for Egypt? He still scores with poorer players around him. For many different reasons it didn't click in front of goal for him for England, fingers crossed last night changes that.

Has that midfield combination ever played together for England before last night?

Has that central defensive partnership ever played together?

How many games has Chilwell played for England?

But Spain are 'rebuilding'.

You couldn't make it up.

We won. Great. Sterling scored a beauty. Fantastic. Kane set two up. It clicked. In places. Groovy.

We are rebuilding, Spain are rebuilding...we were poor for long periods, as they were. Not sure what your point is as it looked to me as though two average teams had a match which one of them won. No need to go over board about it.

No it didn't say how many off target but the point was and still is we don't create enough chances so when we do finally create one even more pressure is on the forwards to take them. Hopefully we'll start creating more in future.

4 shots on target in 30 odd games or whatever the stat was doesn't tell a story without the ones off target. Still agreed he will have less chances for England and absolutely loved him leaving DDG stranded.
