Internationals 5th-11th October

It's the midfield for me, the 2 that are suppose to dictate play, England have Dier and Henderson!

Spain have Thiago, Busquets, Iniesta, Silva.
Germany have Kroos, Ozil, Khedira doesn't even make the 11.
Belgium have De Bruyne, Dembele, Nainggolan doesn't even make the squad.
Brazil have Casemiro, Fernandinho, Paulinho, Renato Augusto.
France have Kante, Bakayoko, Pogba, Matuidi, Rabiot.
Even Croatia have better options, Modric, Rakitic, Kovacic.
I don't even think it's that drastic, I think you can get away with a couple of workmanlike players, as long as you have that one player who can really dictate play. Kane, Alli, Sterling and Rashford would be a pretty decent forward line if we had a player behind them with the vision and technique to pick them out. But if there's one position in the Premier League that consistently goes to a foreign player, it's that creative midfielder role. Alli and Kane look much worse for England, because there's no Eriksen to pick them out. Same with Sterling. Forget De Bruyne or Silva, England don't even have anyone on the level of Sigurdsson or Payet. Look at the top teams, and not one has an English player as the main creative player in the team. The last player to even threaten to become this sort of player was Wilshere. I had some hope that Ross Barkley might get to that level, but his progress seems to have halted.

I dunno if it's just not a position that English academies know how to develop. I'm not really up to date with how kids are trained nowadays, but I wonder if there isn't still a big focus on physicality on players in the centre of the park, with the more technical but smaller kids being put out on the wing. I wonder if a Bernardo Silva would have been developed as a central midfielder in most English academies, of if he would have been put out on the wing and told to work on his pace and crossing.

Only just realised England played today. Sounds like a typical England performance! Won't watch the next one either... wake me up when it's over.

I was genuinely shocked at how poor the bastards were.i walked in the pub at half time and my mates were traumatised...2nd half kicked off and i couldnt believe how disinterested and drained of energy or desire the players were.
Certain posters on here, fans of other teams, will say oh well we won and we,ve qualified.
I would be embarrassed to turn up at a world cup with that shower of shite.
But when your manager ,decided to lay on his back ,whilst the red hero,do -no-wrong -keane stamped on his chest,in front of the watching millions,..didnt even jump to his feet and knock him out...that tells you a lot about the resolution of our national team manager.
England were so poor, id seriously give the job to Sampson, the womens former manager.at least he can shape a team give it definition and a playing stlye that is plain for all to see.
I was embarrassed watching that crap, that Manchester City fc had anything to do with it.
Just what has gone wrong with our national game? Or have we really, really, always been not very good or passionate at that level of football.?

Lallana's a big miss to be fair and would fall into that category.

we desperately need more creative/better midfielders. i think in defence and up front we are alright. theres just no creativity though. someone like foden would be brilliant for this team in the future or even tom davies in midfield. i just dont rate henderson or alli tbh, everything is so slow and predictable in the middle. everytime we put on an england shirt we just panic and lose all ability. we need to somehow get over that and not be scared.

another point is that south gate seems to be instructing them to play it slow and pass it back. ive never seen stones or dier play the ball back so much, most of our players plain in high intensity attacking teams, why not try and replicate that ?

we dont need 11 world class players to do well. we need to play as a team and for every player to know there role. sean dyche for me could be good as at least wed work hard, show fight and players would know there roles.
