Surpassed by the Sony Walkman. In technological terms, their X-Series onward touchscreen technology was far superior in both usability and correctness. In terms of success, the Walkman now outsells the iPod in many territories including Japan. In terms of sound quality, it is generally regarded as the finest around. It has a longer battery life too.

However, that's how Sony outdoes Apple as a brand in the MP3 market. As a one off product though, the Cowon J3 is the finest around.

Ipod, Iphone 4 and any of the Mac's all far superior to anything on the market

I've just explained the iPod. The Macs are superior? Based on what? They are less powerful, more expensive, less usable, many software cannot be run on them without software emulation, they are a pain in the arse to develop for (which is why most people don't bother), the Operating System is beyond a joke in efficiency and they lock you in so that you essentially can't change anything that you don't like. On what are you basing "superior"?

iPhone 4, you might have an argument with but that's because I haven't tried the newest HTCs, which people tell me are the iPhone killer.

ok then, iTunes. Changed the music industry. no way you can argue that.

iTunes/Quicktime is one of the worst pieces of software on the market today. It has suffered from Real Player syndrome (also known as Acrobatness) whereby it started as a usable piece of software, became popular, and they bloated it beyond all recognition.

I have an Ipod and love it because of the combination of storage, price and design but there are design issues with it compared to other mp3 players.

1) I can't set up my own folder system on it which I could on my old iriver player. So I could keep different types of music in different folders which I can't on the iPod

2) The iriver had a function where I could cue another track or tracks while I was listening to something else. Can't do that on the Ipod, where I have to set up an On-The-Go playlist in advance.

3) The proprietary software which means I can't simply "see" the tracks on it in Explorer and move them. I use Winamp with an iPod plug-in to do that.

4) The connector. Why not use mini or micro usb like other players/phones do?

Also the iPhone 4 certainly isn't "far superior" to my HTC Desire.

Brilliant.

My brother bought a 27" iMac yesterday. £1900.

That is over £1000 more than what it cost me to make a 'Hackintosh' which is better than his iMac. Last year. Ok, he beats me with a much better monitor, but that is a ridiculous price difference.

£1000 for an apple logo.

I'm neither an apple lover or hater, but they do seem to release these new features as some sort of technological breakthrough.

For example, in iOS5 there is iMessaging. Been available in Blackberry for yonks, there is various 3rd party apps for iphone, android etc. Apple just seem so far behind but then when they do introduce something, its a world beater. Multi-tasking another example.

Still, if people pay there money then whats stopping them.

Oh, and I fucking hate iTunes.

Come on, I'm trying to make a heavily biased point here...

You can build a hackintosh for half the price of [insert Apple desktop/laptop product] monitor and peripherals included with same or slightly superior specs. It's just a fact. If you don't believe it, google it. There are plenty of build guides out there.

Apple products are only good because they tell you they are and, amazingly people believe them and buy into all the marketing, any way as Apple users are the same radiohead fans, no matter what you say YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!

I had an iriver for about 5 years and used to get so much stick from people with ipods, but all the good things about it you listed meant I never really wanted an ipod. It broke a while ago and i finally cracked and got an ipod touch, i like it but itunes is rubbish and it doesn't do simple things the iriver did. Oh well!

Haha, apologies... Your Hackintosh is the bestest thing in the world. Biatches.

Yeah, it is, but the 27" monitor of that quality would skew the price difference and wouldn't leave me with the huge saving. I have a 24" Samsung monitor, which is better than I will ever need at a third of the price of a good IPS panel. The 27" monitor for the iMac, with the technology behind them, are much more expensive and aren't actually needed for the vast majority of people buying the iMac.

The new software looks absolutly awesome, cant wait for it to come out!

Apple are streets ahead of Android!

No they aren't. Not technologically at least. iOS is quite simply the worst platform to develop on, on the planet, and people only do so because they are forced into it by the popularity of Apple's products; solely due to their marketing campaigns and hipster wankers buying their substandard products to try and fulfil their miserable consumer whore lives.

I can't think of a single Apple product that even approaches been "good", let alone "great".
Couldn't have put it better myself.

I actually lol'd at this

Not sure how Apple are streets ahead of Android when they copied some of their features.

Now where have I seen a notification bar that drags down before? Oh yes, that's right, on my HTC!

The reason why Bluemoon doesn't have an iPhone app is solely down to me absolutely desperately trying to not spunk all that money on a Mac for the production of a single app.

You see, Apple makes it nigh on impossible to develop for the iPhone/iPad/Mac unless you are physically on a Mac. Say what you want about Microsoft, but you can target their platforms from anywhere. Hell, even when I'm building on a Linux based OS, I still would rather ignore Mac than go through the hoops necessary to target it.
