Just fucked sky tv and broadband off. Got iptv, vpn, and will pay for netflix for the kids.
This way can fuck off the tv license too.
Any suggestions for a decent broadband?
A fairly long story encapsulated into a mini story as I can't abide longwindedness. Our VPN deal with Nord came to an end a week ago, it was a two year contract for around £50 that performed admirably throughout it's tenure, operating magnificently with very little degradation of speed.
So I have been temporarily using Proton free VPN with restricted service I.E a limit of six destinations that are auto selected and all only available on one device. No mither as it's free to air and only a temporary fix. If any one is looking for a free VPN then Proton will fit the bill as it has no logs and registered in Switzerland.
Anyway onwards and upwards and I needed more out of our VPN and had priced up the market during B.F week. Could have got PIA'S basic service for £44 for 28 months and non too scruffy an outfit as we have used them before. We wasn't happy with Nord's renewal prices so I sent in a help me ticket and they came good at the final hour.
In addition I was looking for a Cloud Locker and although the Amazonians offer one free in their Prime it's not at all secure. So we just bought Nord VPN complete that includes VPN, a full array of malware suites protections and a cloud locker with a full terabyte of secure scrambled data for £100 for 2 years. I thought it was a great deal and better than what they're offering at the moment for B.F customers. Maybe that will change on Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Problem is I have just started uploading to our Nord locker and it's taken me a full 9 hours to move a 27gig file and it still has another 1 hour to go. Reason being that we are with BT and live in an area not yet supported by full fibre so can only get 70mb/s download and a scabby 17mb/s upload which is pretty Meh for gaming and shifting data.
Openreach said there was no possibility of full fibre for at least another 12 months in our area, but then when all was lost I accidently stumbled across BRSK and folk seem to like them. They don't use Openreach cables and have their own set up so I went on U-Switch as they are offering a £45 deal to move so we signed up.
It's a 14 day bale out if it's not what they promise, so no worries and the price will not increase over the 18 month contract. They are to give us 150mb/s downloads and as it's Symmetrical we can have a 150 mb/s upload too which to be honest it pretty good going compared to BT'S non symmetrical offering of 17mb/s.
Our Firestick and gaming should positively fly after installation which they can perform for us in 2 days time. Also the remaining 185gig of data I need to upload to the Nord Cloud will only take around a day compared to about 7 to 10 days with BT. Not dissing BT as they are hamstrung by Openreach's inability to migrate us onto full fibre.
The cost will be less than BT and fixed at £24 c/m for 18 months. Made me somewhat grin when I thought back to the internet speeds of old I got in the 90's with Zen internet dial up @£29.99 a month. Internet was in its infancy back then and if anyone was seen on a computer they instantly tagged as a geek.
I remember my first internet search for Top Gear. Always liked those motoring programs but the content that it spat out was not for the faint hearted. No A.I back then to moderate content. So to conclude if your like me and struggling to receive full fibre or vexed by costings then maybe have a look at BRSK.
