I’m flying over for the West Ham home game in February and due to the Saudi blockade, we have to fly straight into Iranian airspace and then over Iraq. So I’m thrilled.

The one on the air base? I'm not sure there's much to say. It was a face saving "attack" by Iran. From what I've heard on the radio, all U.S. personnel were in bunkers and quite safe. The Pentagon and Ft. Meade were aware of the launches as soon as they happened. It's my understanding through satrliites and tracking the heat signatures of the launch it was not a huge threat.

I should think, if the Iranian government really wanted to kill many Americans in Iraq there are better way such as car bombs, suicide bombers or a group of men armed with rifles making an attack.

It wouldn't completely surprise me if we found out that the Americans knew exactly what the Iranian response was going to be.

Currently Trump can claim victory as Soleimani is gone and Khamanei can claim victory as if he tells the Iranian public 80 Americans were killed they'll believe it.

No losers (politically) on either side.

If Trump responds with force then I'll admit this hypothesis is complete bollocks :-)

What so shocking about all of this is we still haven't seen any official statement from the Pentagon or the White house regarding the missile attack.

Just been on the radio, missed who it was but he said the US troops and a few British and NATO ones were effectively hunkered down in Iraq, as they can’t move from their bases they can’t do the job they are there for. They may as well come home, Tehran can then orchestrate the integration of Iraq with Iran and give the Kurds their own space in Northern Iraq.

That would allow Tehran to control a vast area and their backing of the Syrian regime means the biggest influence ever held over the Middle East. Right at the Western end lies Palestine and Israel with Hezbollah entrenched in the former with funding from Tehran. Israel really would be in danger.

To this end, its possible the US will now consider a war with Iran before they enrich their plutonium which apparently can be done in three months.

The peaceful solution would be to pull out all Western forces from that area and fortify bases in Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait and the UAE and tell Iran if they ever attacked Israel or those sovereignties they would be inviting the ultimate retaliation
