Iranian General killed by US Drone.

If it wasnt shot down then Boeing are in the shit if another 737 has gone down...regardless of the fact this wasnt an 800max. If a single engine failure has brought down an aircraft in flames then there is a very big problem with those engines.

As you say those pics do look incriminating and together with reports actually saying it was shot down things start to point to an utter catastrophic fuck up.

It's very unlikely and I'd hope almost impossible nowadays. You can count the number of recent uncontained engine failures leading to deaths on one hand.

Southwest did have one with a variant of this plane a few years back but it just turned back and landed.

It's exceptionally rare and even when it does happen, 99% of the time it doesn't do enough damage to really cause a serious problem such as a fire/explosion.

I remember those for sure, but the equipment and radar tech that's out there ought to be more than capable of telling a Boeing from a Mig, for example.
And I will back that up by saying I don't know what happened with this latest incident, so I won't be rushing to an opinion on that. Fucking hate flying as it is, things like this don't help. Feel for everyone on that flight

I hate flying mate, but I never worry about being shot out of the sky, just great another thing to let my anxiety run wild with.

I wonder how this plays out in Iran.

The regime's bumbling, part-manufactured funeral procession and then the likely shooting down of a civilian aircraft has now led to the deaths of well over 100 Iranian civilians, plus about 100 more international civilians.

Will this make the average Iranian hate America more or will they start to turn on the Mr Bean like character who's running the country?

Of course it should but the common factor between all three incidents was that the aircraft were flying in areas where there was high tension. It's in situations like this that mistakes are tragically made.

This probably belongs in a separate thread, but I try (and usually fail) to enter into a semi-conscious quasi yogic state, even for a one hour flight. But with the kids and general hubbub I rarely get to shut my eyes. Go to fly to Denmark in the summer and I'm already nervous!

You're right and if no-fly zones are not introduced quickly enough then those on the ground would get twitchy, I understand that.

I’m hoping that now they can tell their people they took revenge on America (they’ve already said they killed 80 on state media), and leave it there and that Trump doesn’t need to respond as no one was hurt and that everyone pulls back from the edge.
