Ireland distraught

I've read a couple of pages of this thread, but not all of it, so apologies if what I'm about to say has been stated already.

Someone made a good point the other day, which I hadn't thought about - and it may have been to do with Bellamy not being allowed to train. The point was that Mancini is doing tactical work with the players, which will give full details on how we will set up for certain games. This will probably include set pieces and formations. With that in mind, why would he let players in on this who will more than likely be off to one of our rivals in very short order?

Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but it wasn't a bad point.

tactical work on defensive midfield,i think everyone know's about that.

tactical work = seven players in our own half passing it about a bit, then pass it back to Joe Hart to langer it on to Carlos and Silva. Magic

Interesting how I seem to highlight your point with a completely different one. I don't think you interpret text very well. Ireland is not good enough for this squad or he'd be part of our plans for the season which he isn't. He looked for a brief time like he could step up but it was a false dawn. Milner is just about Villa's best player. They don't want him gone but can't afford to keep him. Until he's gone he ill be in their 1st team. Ireland isn't good enough for ours and has consistantly proved this over the last year and in pre-season this year. He hasn't stepped up. Shame, I was rooting for the guy but the truth sometimes hurts.

I completely disagree with your analysis. I believe Ireland (as was the case with him training and playing throughout pre-season) was on the periphery of Mancini's plans. He might not have been as important as Vieira for example (what a fcking joke), however he wasn't clearly out of his plans either. If that was the case, why not put him on the transfer list and make it clear? They have only reacted this way because Mancini doesnt like the fact that Ireland hasnt been a good little schoolboy and gone to Villa with no questions asked. I am happy to debate why I think Ireland is a better player than you give him credit for, and the insulting nature of how someone like Vieira would be in the squad before him, when we have enough defensive minded midfield players, and some coming through at youth level, but I was actually responding to the point someone made about Ireland being left out so he doesnt know our tactics, which is a load of bollocks. And that the same should apply for Millner.
erm...maybe he played Ireland in preseason to:

a, put him in the shop window
b, played him because lots of our players were on holiday
c, to keep him fit (see a)

Or possibly to give him a final chance to impress as Mancini was borderline about whether he could make the cut or not?? If this was the case did Ireland do enough to impress people on here? TBH I did not watch the friendlies inently enough to make any judgement so I haveto rely on the Managers vastly superior knowledge and understanding of the game compared to mine.

When I heard about Ireland demanding a £2m goodbye payment I thought it was a joke. Obviously it's coming from his agent who is trying to get him, and himself, as much money as he can. But it's a piss take to be frank and I thought the club was doing absolutely the right thing about playing hardball.

However, reading the article in the MEN (sorry if already posted but couldn't find it)

<a class="postlink" href="http://menmedia.co.uk/sport/football/manchester_city/s/1314078_ireland_left_out_in_cold_by_city" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://menmedia.co.uk/sport/football/ma ... ld_by_city</a>

I can't help but feel we're being very unprofessional by not letting him train with the 1st team. It's clear that Mancini is bringing the business side of things onto the training pitch. Bellamy has been told to stay away (rightly so if he is a disruptive figure in training but think it has more to do with trying to force him out) but now Ireland has been told he has to train with the reserves? This is a guy who has been brought through our ranks, has city in his heart, and yes hasn't been great recently but has performed very well for us in the past. He is NOT a reserve player, and even though he's probably leaving, and even though he isn't in our 25 man squad, how is letting him continue to train with the first team going to be a disruptive influence on the squad? He's never slagged us off to my knowledge and he's never been disruptive on the pitch, in the training room, or in the dressing room that I know of. And to treat him this way, because we want him to be part of the Milner deal is unprofessional and disgraceful in my opinion. Really don't like this side of Mancini. I hope I've got it wrong.

very nice. being told by that rag **** twatt that your not wanted go and train with the kids. if only for this, its a fucking disgrace, unless there is a very good reason like disciplinary, but to use that bastard to do it is beyond the pale.

1. I think Ireland is well within his rights to ask for his contract to be honoured (if that's really what the hold up is?).

2. City are well within their rights to ask him to train with the reserves since the 1st team squad is "too big" as it is. If he doesn't fit into the plans then he's just taking up someone else's place. Even if you think he should be in the 25, he isn't, so that's where we are.

Sounds reasonable... and Villa won't care what Milner learns, the new manager will porbably change it all anyway!

yeah ive heard this onlooker is so reliable in his info!

“He looked a bit embarrassed training with the reserves and was certainly not whole-hearted, not surprising as he was player of the year just two years ago” said the onlooker.

Yeah, i can go with that alongside a, b, and d,. however, Jo also played preseason and looked quite sharp, was probably our best player all things considered.

Can't see him getting much game time to be honest though.

Agreed on both counts. I don't see him not training with the senior squad as a punishment, there may be an element of nudging him towards the exit door but, more importantly, we should be building an 'us against the world' mentality in the senior squad, you don't do that with outsiders in there.

People may disagree with whether he should be out of the squad but that's a different debate, if you're out of the squad you're out of the squad.
