Ireland in 08/09 - 13 goals, 13 assists
Milner in 09/10 - 11 goals, 15 assists

"average workhorse"

But which one shows more conviction and desire to want to win ?
Which one has been given plenty of opportunities to re-establish himself as a "top midfielder" only to yet time and time again prove the Manager correct ?

My post was in response to people saying Milner was average. He'll be a good signing.

Yet another cock up by our club. Part exchange for an inferior player, and how much money? Villa are laughing their bollocks off.

Just remind us all on,which top PL Clubs have shown any interest in wanting SI ??

Bang on.You'd think they'd be smashing the door down for this "world class" creative midfielder that's done jack for nearly 18 months.

Burst into the team with a few flashes of what could be....a great half season under Sven, then it dropped off...good start under Hughes, then it dropped off...see the pattern forming here?
The guy has talent-no doubt.
But he's just not consistant enough to justify having a team built around him.

At least not at City.

People have to accept that sometimes,in order to go forward in life,it's time to move on.

Ireland suffers from that academy player misty-eyed romanticism that states that no matter what, they must be given more fresh starts than Pete Doherty....at the level we're aspiring to now,it just doesn't work.

IMO Onouha is the same as Ireland-not good enough for a top side, but attracts similar levels of sympathy and the sentiment simply because he's an "academy product."
He has the same problem as Ireland-good in parts, but lacking that extra 10% of mental toughness, attitude, decison making-call it what you will-that seperates the "average" from the "quality."

I would dearly love both of them to be part of a table topping City side.
But blue glasses off-the harsh fact is that in this team, they just aint good enough.

Sorry.

If he wants to go fair enough. He will go down a fair bit in my estimations though if he leaves city to go to a club selling their best players with no manager.

OK he wants to play football, but what decent player agrees to a go to another club where he doesnt even know who the manager is going to be ?

Makes no sense to me will show he really doesnt have any ambition and just wants an easy life and the money if he agrees to go to Villa in this situation.

Just wish these players would kunckle down play to their ability and fight for their shirt. It just seems like we have too many players that expect to be picked every week regardless of their form, how they play.

He has no choice but to go if he stays he is unlikely to make the 25 - he is a make weight in a deal the only option he has is too sit tight and see if another club come in Arse maybe but its a risk

Seems you are the clueless one. We are buying Milner as a box to box midfielder which Ireland isn't. We replaced Ireland with Silva so yes we did sign a world class creative midfielder.

Milner will add great drive and commitment to our midfield, something which Ireland has never done

He aint a fookin 25 plus million pound player - he's a decent player but aint a stand out player - he was annonymous for Villa against the top 5 clubs last year - in a 4 3 3 Milner will play in a 3 out of Toure - DJ - Barry

Villa are pissing themselves at this deal

by the way Silva was bought to replace Ballamy not Ireland

The fee i agree with you. Our midfield going off the first 35 minutes we will play the diamond or 4 3 1 2! Where did Silva feature in these formations? Yes you guessed it, CREATIVE MIDFIELD.

Clueless

Bang on - I am sick to fucking death of this Milner bashing. He is a miles better all round performer than our so called superman. Stevie has had his chances and he has blown them. HE may well go on to be a good player again but I simply cannot see it being with us. He is yesterdays news, actually he is not even last years news. Good for a season two fucking years ago, not good enough for where we are going, the same might be said of Milner in the future, but we wont know until we try it. When Gerrard and Lampard retire from England shortly, which may be sooner than we think given it seems en-vogue at the moment, Milner will be the main England CM. Good enough for the national team, a manager who has won countless trophies in Italy and Spain and good enough for our very own Bobby Manc, then he's good enough for me. When/if we do sign the lad I sincerely hope you lot give him a chance or pray yer not sat near me when you start booing.

Apologies then for my misintepration on your views.
Have a look at the MILNER THREAD and read the article for tomorrows Guardian.

I think Villa is probably the best he's gonna get - cant see any of the 6/7 teams most people would put above villa coming in for him - def not for their first 11 anyway.
I reckon Dunnie might have had a few encouraging words to say about life at Villa - regardless of who the manager is.
