Ireland is the player we need at this club.

But why do they love him? I just dont get it, the same people probably rate Wayne Bridge.

The 1 thing you will always get from Bridge though is effort!!! No matter what he tries and on top of that a brilliant performance against Chelsea after the Terry thing!!!

Many City fans probably do overrate Ireland, but we have/had the pleasure of watching him week in week out. Many City fans only watch Villa games on MoTD where they only show the positive highlights 9 times out of 10. How do we know that Milner doesn't drift in out of games? We don't.When he played for England was the prime example, a cross here and there and thats it.

You dont, but the Villa fans know and they would have mention that if that was the case. Fans know their players better than anyone and they know theor weakness and strenght....and Villa fans would have mentioned like you guys are saying about Ireland his weakness. As a neutral I see ireland as the more talented player, but Millner as the more useful player. Fotball is not only about ability, its also about attitude and mental strenght and even though i dont watch oreland, he just looks to me as a player who will not go that extra mile when things get really hard, and thats alot of the time what separates players.

But Milner isn't the player we need. A team full of hard workers is useful but when you come up against the likes of Stoke who are always well organised, it becomes a problem. Ireland can turn a game on its head with a pass, that is what we lacked without him and thats what we won't get with Milner.

But Millner is not an attacking midfielder, he will replace barry and unlike Barry he has legs. I personally think he's a good player....thats it, a good player and if City pay 25 million for him, then the world has really gone mad. In terms of talent, he's nowhere near Ireland. But atleast with Millner you know what you gonna get, just dont expect him to break down teams

Ireland is definetly worth keeping a few reasons:
* He is a much better player than he was when he first came in to the squad.
* Hes home grown and fits with these quotas.
* He wants to stay.
* Last time he worked hard during preseason he blew us all away.
* If he gets back on form, we will love him more than any other midfielder we have.

My only problem is that he needs to get back to his prior form, he can play anywhere in the midfield which is good but keeping him could mean one of Barry, DeJong, M. Johnson, Weiss, SWP etc.

plus i think Bridge and Kolarov are top for left back, Bridge was the best LB cover at Chelsea and Kolarov is gonna have to work hard cos Bridge isnt that bad, he loves getting forward and can cross. A bit of healthy competition will be good for the team.

Eh? He's a winger and he only began to play centre-midfield at Villa because we signed Barry.

If Barry was still at Villa, Milner would not be used as a centre-mid.

I welcome all the signings but those that think Mancini is a genius or that we'll suddenly wipe the floor with teams this season are sadly mistaken imo. We've still got a looooooong way to go to b a decent team imo. (As an example who can honestly say they are confident that we can beat Spurs day 1?)

I hear all his devotion to Mancini, yet we play dour horrible football. I like the man but surely be to God we'll see some attractive play soon - at which point I may begin to believe that he's a good manager.

I also hear a lot of people putting a lot of faith in Johnson. IMO he's a decent kid. Better thn SWP on his day but inconsistent. Somewhere between Weiss and SWP. I wonder if him being English clouds people's opinions - he's too nice a lad to see become the new scape goat of English football.

I disagree with most regarding DeJong (I think he's a very negative player), Bridge (I don't think he's as bad as most seem to think), Barry (too slow imo), Ade (Not too lazy at all), tevez and Bellamy (imo both need to look up more or we'll never play as a team).

Ireland is just one more where I seem to be on a different tangent to most. I still see him as one of our best players. I've seen nothing from Silva for example to convince me that he'll be any better than Ireland. I simply think he's a fantastic young player and that those who can't see this are off their chuck.

At the end o the day I guess it's all about opinions. But in my opinion if Mancini lets Ireland go then I will be firmly against the man (not in a sexual way). SWP was only puppy love for me. I really really love Ireland!!!! :-)

Adam Johnson has a good future ahead of him, but i dont think he will be in the first 11 this season. hell get games from ppl getting hurt and cup games and league games when the first 11 do europa.

as for De Jong i dont really see him in the first 11 either with yaya there. if we do the diamond yaya shuld be ahead of the back 4 with ireland and milner in front and silva at the top

i think Johnson has a good future ahead of him but he can be prone to losing the ball, saying that his mazy runs and assists are great and his crossing is quality, milner will play in the middle for me, i think de jong will stay becuase hes a fan favourite and hes young, for me i think barry is for the chop?

Ireland aint good enough, never has been , never will be....Apart from 1/2 a season playing alongside Robinho......

Realistically,Ireland's had one good season for City when Sven was manager.

Sure,he can play-but the best players do it week in,week out.
They're also felxible and able to play in different positions when needed.
If Ireland doesn't play in his favourite "behind the front two" then he's effectively lost.

I often wonder would there be such a clamour for his inclusion if he'd been bought in,rather than being an academy player?

No doubt a good player on his day-but a percentage of "City myth" also.

maybe i'm reading this wrong, but is it not better to play to the players strengths than expect him to play in flexible position as you say, would you play de jong, vieria, barry kompany off the center forward are they not flexible too.???????????????????
