Many City fans probably do overrate Ireland, but we have/had the pleasure of watching him week in week out. Many City fans only watch Villa games on MoTD where they only show the positive highlights 9 times out of 10. How do we know that Milner doesn't drift in out of games? We don't.

When he played for England was the prime example, a cross here and there and thats it.

It is perfectly reasonable to look at Ireland during the good season and think he is a good player but then after last season choose look at his career as a whole and suspect that he is a one season wonder and that he isn't quite as good as some people say.

Maybe all those fans of the clubs you mention are excited because they choose to believe the hype that occurred during his one good season.

I wouldn't slag Tevez off for not getting 30 goals but if he was utterly shit, literally every time he was picked this coming season, I'd probably have a bit of a go at him, yes.

For what it is worth, I don't think Ireland is as good or as bad as many people on here claim. He is a decent player, with bags of talent who doesn't apply himself often enough. Decent squad player but wouldn't make my first choice 11 unless he seriously improves his consistency.

Anyone that really wants to examine Ireland ought to read MCVITA. It's pretty clear those who suck his klingons have some serious explaining to do, given they are now on the third round of the same excuses.

Ireland is a good player if he manages to engage his brain into gear. Last season and last night against sporting he seems to be lagging in time by about 5 seconds. By the time he has decided what he wants to do with the ball its to late. I dont no whether this is because he has no options and the team is making him look bad or hes lost it. Im not privy to the training ground and will have to trust the coaching team on his ability. All i will say is this, we cant keep everyone.

I always say that Ireland himself says his posistion is where he plays best, firstly where is this posistion but it has to be in 1 square foot of the entire pitch. Its like if you play him 9cm out from where he wants to start he gives up

I wonder if the people who slag off Ireland ever watch City? Last season he was disappointing but at times he was making some great runs off the ball that our other "midfielders" just couldn't pick out. With better players around him I think he will look at lot better.

We just keep him because
1, He is still learning (23yrs old, younger than Milner)
2, He has the potential to be a great player.
3, He actually cares about the club.

Personally I would prefer to take a slightly slower route to the top and win something with a team that actually cares and understands about the club than lots of imports.

He's not getting a chance in his prefered role, which is pissing me off. 2 holding midfielders does not work(last night was hard to watch, theres just nothing in the attacking 3rd). Same with Onuoha, he just won't give him a run of games at cb where imo he's a class act.
