Ireland is the player we need at this club.

We get linked with every player in the world doesnt mean we buying them

Dont know if you noticed everyone of our players gets linked in some way with these above names

Thats what your not getting with what im saying. I have said he is a good player but overrated by City fans. There is a difference he is good, shit form nearly all the time but we can see the talent but and this is the but he has 1 half decent game and all of a sudden people on here saying he will be bigger than Messi, its just utterly ridiculous!!!

Many City fans probably do overrate Ireland, but we have/had the pleasure of watching him week in week out. Many City fans only watch Villa games on MoTD where they only show the positive highlights 9 times out of 10. How do we know that Milner doesn't drift in out of games? We don't.When he played for England was the prime example, a cross here and there and thats it.

You dont, but the Villa fans know and they would have mention that if that was the case. Fans know their players better than anyone and they know theor weakness and strenght....and Villa fans would have mentioned like you guys are saying about Ireland his weakness. As a neutral I see ireland as the more talented player, but Millner as the more useful player. Fotball is not only about ability, its also about attitude and mental strenght and even though i dont watch oreland, he just looks to me as a player who will not go that extra mile when things get really hard, and thats alot of the time what separates players.

There can be ABSOLUTELY no doubt that Ireland has the quality needed to be a top class player. NONE! The ONLY real question is what does it take for him to BE that player?

Is it playing him in his "right" position?
Is it giving him the freedom of the pitch?
Is it providing him with the psychological comfort of knowing he is loved so he can perform?

Whatever it is, he needs to either get it sorted here or move away and find it somewhere else. Last night, he was making some runs and making some decent passes in a side that will NEVER see the field EVER again in Man City shirts, so it is not exactly the high water mark in terms of yardsticks for his future.

The best gauge of who is and is not a player is fellow pros, especially those that have seen you play day in and day out for years. Therefore, I listened with interest when Ned said Ireland was the best player he had ever played with EVER. Those players NEED to be nurtured and, has been said already, just because he played out of his head (or was it just out of his hair?!) for a season, does not make him the finished article. He is YOUNG, VERY YOUNG by the standards of the world's best midfielders.

He has potential, but on the money he makes, and the priorities of the club to reach the top in the next few years, does he have the environment, and will he have the opportunity, at City to realize it?

I hope he does, because over the next three years, he could save us £50M or more on a box to box midfielder.

Instead of asking what can be done for himn, shouldnt the question be what can he do himself to get to that level and how much does he actually want? There have been many players more talented than Ireland over the years who has failed.

You make a good point IF he has never reached the level where we have actually SEEN him play at what looked like full potential. However, with Ireland, it is clear there are "man management issues" involved. Does Mancini give a toss about him and those, or is Mancini simply interested in moving him on if he does not like the way he (Mancini) has set up the store?

My concern is that, having been a pro and seen these things firsthand, the dressing room is NOT a place of equals and EVERYONE needs something different to perform at the highest levels day in, day out. It is, obviously, VERY EASY to say "If he does not put in a shift for the money we are paying him he can eff off!" but these players are not doing it for the money when they step on the field. Once you step on the field, it is you and against him, us against them.

Again, I understand your point, he needs to do HIS PART in all of this. However, if he is doing the business in training, when it is all for fun, but not getting on the field, or no doing on the field, it is down to MAN MANAGEMENT, which is a skill some have perfected, others not so much. Hopefully, if Roberto is not the "arm around the shoulder" type, then Kolo, Kiddo, Platt or someone else with some sway can be that person.

Look at it this way, if he was a nobody and a nothing, he would just be getting out of Uni with a piece of paper and no experience. In that first job, someone would probably be showing him the ropes. If he was a sensitive soul, which Ireland clearly is, then that relationship could make or break that job opportunity for him. This is not nailing boards together, or delivering mail, or anything that requires simple effort and not much talent, but something that relies on maximum effort while displaying your talent...if it was easy, we would ALL be doing it!

In short, he needs to be nurtured or set free. Torturing a tortured soul often means simply ignoring it, letting it wither and die, so let's not ignore him. That's all.

My belief is that SOON, Silva and Ireland could look like twins separated at birth.

Ireland has had 2/3rds of a good season end of. He is one of the most overated players of all time. We need winners at this club. Were you at the spurs game? Ireland really showed passion when it counted didnt he?

Good point. As an Arsenal fan I remember 2 years ago when we were booing Song and not one fan could understand why he was even at the club, Wenger came out and said I believe he has what it takes to be top player and you will see that as well. A former coach said not even the coaches who help Wenger believed in him and it was Wenger alone who believed on him....and now he's a fan favourite.

Sometimes a player need a manager who really believes in them and just encourages him, but where City are heading and whats expected of Mancini, does he really have the time to give many chances to a fragile player and potentially top class player? He needs results straight away and cant think too much long term. Thats why I think its better for his career to leave and maybe go to a club like Villa where there's less pressure and expectations

I found myself inwardly groaning when Ireland came on this season as he looked less than bothered and he isnt a player that can turn a game on its head from the bench he needs time to grow into a match

I said inwardly groaning because outwardly would get me castrated with a rusty nail by the Ireland lovers

But why do they love him? I just dont get it, the same people probably rate Wayne Bridge.

Funnily enough, even though I live in Chicago, I WAS at the Spurs game, and plenty of others, too!

In case you missed the point I was trying to make, he HAS the ability, but what does it take for him to perform? I tried to discuss THAT. If City is not the place for that, so be it. Personally, I think it CAN BE. As Mancini (I think) said, he has to get his head right. What does that take?
