im gutted, this IMO is a big mistake and will come back to bite us, only this time last year ushited and arsenal were after him now we've got about the equivalent of £2m for him.

He WILL find his form back, i can guarantee that and it will be hard to watch him playing for Villa when he does. Just like the Dunne deal i genuinely feel this is a mistake, the player of the year curse has struck again!

other than that i think Milner is a great signing and become (imo again) our steven gerrard driving us on through midfield.

is he going to replace Barry in the team do you think? or de jong?

I'm gutted that Ireland has gone , he was quality in my eyes ......

i'm just hoping that Milner proves an adequate replacement , because i've never really rated him as anything that special ...... i hope i've got him wrong ....... but i wasn't wrong about Gareth Barry on here , when so many were!

Also Billy, academies are there for producing superstar players on the cheap that make the grade in the longrun. Not to help the fans form emotional attachments to players.

How many full games did Ireland play last season? How many games did he start under Mancini? How many games did he come off the bench? What type of games were they? What different positions did we play him? How many of those appearances did he play in his best position?

These are questions some of you should ask yourself before spouting out some general shite about Ireland has had one good season, thanks for the one great season stevie. No one is doubting last season he didnt perform as well as the season before. However, if some of you think it's because of a sudden loss of ability and not down to other contextual reasons, then you clearly know nothing about football. I back Mancini. We move on. It's a fresh start for Ireland. But make no mistake, there is no doubt if he plays regularly, in a position which suits him, which he likely will at Villa, then he will absolutely rediscover the form he showed during the great season with us. I accept there are reasons why he may no longer fit into our plans. Thats a fair argument. But the shite coming from some of you about good riddance, over rated etc, is clear proof you have not watched Ireland play for City in the flesh at all.

well, I hate seeing the 'over-rated' shite comments too... but there's no reason to start stupid jibes about seeing him in the flesh.

if we're being pedantic about the 'contextual reasons', saying he only lost form under Mancini amounts to a rewriting of history. He was out of favour under MH as well. It does, unfortunately, come down to him only being happy in the number 10 slot. Attacking creative midfield players tend to develop the ability to fill any one of 4 positions. They can either cut it in the centre, at a pinch, or they can make the play from a wide position. Often, they can do it all. It's not unreasonable to expect him to do the same as all the others. He certainly had the technical skills and physical ability to do so. Where I do have sympathy for him, is that he was asked to overcome these challenges at a time of great instability and change at the club.

Add to that, where are you people in relation to SWP? I don't recall him having recently during last season, got anywhere near the form he showed before moving to Chelsea. Should we sell him?

In an ideal world, I'd be tempted. He's been a big disappoinment to me over the last year and a bit. He lacks any sort of craft or intelligence to his game, which is pretty shocking for a 29 year old. I don't buy the 'city through and through' bit, either.

It's difficult however, he's in his last year so will almost certainly block the move to go on a Bosman. He will do a job for us, he does at least try pretty hard. So it's reasonable to stick with him this year, we've made more than enough changes for one year.

My 4,500 loyalty points beg to differ that I have not seen him in person. 24 years I have been going flower. Anytime someone states an opinion you disagree with, you question how long they have supported city and if they go or not. Somethings not right in that. Smells raggy though you clearly aren't one.

Ps zaba was often played out of position as was Milner last season. In modern football, it is expected and one cannot just play in ones favoured position. Look at Gerard, he even played right back in a couple of games last season.

This is the right move for him to make at the moment. His form for us for the past two seasons has been not of been the standard required to help City kick on from the level that where we at. right now Mark Hughes could not get him performing on a consistant basis. Whilst Milner is an equal in terms of ability he is a far better week in week out performer.

Absolutley gutted that Stevies leaving. 8 Million for an outstanding talent is disgusting. We are getting raped. He worth at least 15 mill in todays market. Yes he's struggled to find some form but hes a fantastic player and I really hope he does well at Villa.
