Ireland is Superman, and always will be Superman!

Met him a couple of times at the Trafford Centre outside Coast with his missus and he's a genuinely a top notch bloke. He's very shy but as soon as he's talking about football and especially Manchester City his eyes light up, I'm genuinely gutted to see him leave but if he's not in Mancini's plans then he deserves to be playing first team football somewhere. All the stories about his "nan" are fucking ridiculous, he was doing what any decent man would do to try and protect his missus. Unfortunately it back fired out of all propotion but he's a genuinely nice, decent man and I hope he gets as much respect as Dunnie Monster got when he cameback to City with Villa. Maybe he does just need a change of scenery who knows but whatever happens he'll be missed at City. IRELAND IS SUPERMAN!

Grow a pair of nuts OP, get your rose tinted specs off, Ireland couldn't care less about City, once a Rag Always a Rag. I personally look forward to seeing him fail at Villa, then again he'll probably get carried by Petrov and Young and the media will make out that he's a superstar, like they've done with Dunne when he's been carried by Collins and Warnock for the last year.

He was never given a chance. He was always going to be through the door whatever happened. He should have been given a decent amount of games. Just wait till he finds his form at Villa. Stevie will have the last laugh.

Of course he was given chances last year but he failed to take them. Mancini mentioned that Ireland needed to get his head right well lets be honest Stevie hasnot for the first time been with the fairies. A great player when on song and I hope he does well at Villa Mancini has recognised he is a talent the thing is football is about mental as well as physical strength and I ma not sure Ireland could cope with the Expectations.

Maybe that was why he pulled out of Ireland maybe he felt too much under pressure I dont know. He seemed to perform well for a team that over achieved to ana extent and got 10th maybe he struggls with a team where real expectations and pressure are applied I dont know

What I'm saying is it's the managers job to have a team that perform, and he has decided Ireland doesn't fit the bill. That's not being fucked over, that's a manager doing his job.

Other players that have been fucked over by your reasoning Jo, Kelvin Etuhu, Logan, Santa Cruz, Stuart Taylor.

How about we start them all against Liverpool, they only need a run of games right?

Bollocks is Ireland the better player. Milner has been consistently improving since he made his debut for Leeds and he can play in a whole number of different positions. Ireland has had one decent season and he is pretty much a one trick pony. Ireland himself has admitted that he can only play in one position and recently has hasn't even done that very well. I don't want to slag him off because he is an academy player and a talented footballer but sadly he isn't good enough for us.

As he was last summer. It was always his dream to rejoin the Rags, he used us to prove to them he was, ahem 'Good enough' so he could get a move back there. Not worked out though has it. Maybe when he fails with Villa and the Rags are desperate they might sign him for about a million next year or the year after.

I'm sad to see Stevie go, he was a real favourite of mine, I even had his name and number on my shirt before he'd made his first team debut.

I know he could be inconsistent and drift out of games but never the less I still always got great pleasure from watching him play. At times his touch was as good as anyone i've ever seen.

I really hope it all works out for him at Villa.

Ireland looked lost with all the change that was going on around him. Whether that is where the mental flaw in his character was exposed i don't know but games just passed him by last season. The majority of his goals and assists came through his link up play with Robbie and it was a joyous season that he had in 08/09 but he can be too easily stifled in games for me.

There just isnt enough drive and passion in his play and Milner isnt his replacement its Silva. We desperately need Milner to compliment what we already have in midfield. This lad is hard as nails, wont stop running, will support the forwards all day long, get us 10 goals in all comps and still be back to defend his own goal. He is going to be our favourite player and will really bond with the fans. A northern lad with a passion that we will all embrace more than all the star names. Welcome James, make us great. Good look Stevie Ireland say hello to Dunnie from us all.

Milner - much stronger mentally and makings of a club captain, a model professional (no bling bling, crazy cars, fake granny deaths), far more versatile than Ireland who is useful in one position in one system

Used to love Superman and will fondly remember what he did for our club - but one season out of how many? Milner's career has been one of constant improvement and adaptation to new roles, Ireland had just the one good season and couldn't continue it. We have signed the better player.

But again, I have to ask. So who goes off so that Ireland can stay?

If you were Mancini, a man tipped to lose his job by Christmas if he doesn't perform well, would you keep an underperformer in the hopes he performs?

I never wanted to get rid of Ireland, but the twat league rules made us trim the roster to 25 men. You have to understand Mancini's fears considering how much pressure he is under, and the fact that he probably would have kept Ireland had there not been a 25 man restriction.
