Irish Current Affairs

Some Irish voters clearly have short memories but the increased SF vote is like the SNPs - a consequence of the choice between 2 abject main parties. Varadkar will probably be off for his reward in Brussels before long.

The one that had that cretin Gerry Adams as leader.
Nah, they're definitely building momentum. If they'd run a decent amount of candidates they might have had a chance of forming a government. As it is FF/FG will be terrified of hanging parliament and sending us back to the polls to give them a chance to do so. Let's see how they handle 4 years of real scrutiny as the official opposition.

SF weren't running in my location. If they were I'd have voted for them. Anyone but FG. And FF aren't much different. I hope the result shake things up.

Tax me please - I can afford it. And use that money wisely for more police, nurses, teachers, houses, support, etc. And please not a penny towards "Green" initiatives. We can take that on in another 10 years when the big countries show the way on the global crisis and we've dealt with our own local crisis.

Best thread on the politics forum by a mile this one.

A thread that's actually well debated, gives an insight, and is worth reading.

Loving the English ignorance on this thread. Rather than studying the current state of Irish politics they'd rather lay back on stereotypes of each party involved.

Anyway, before the attention seekers came along.....

It was the first general election i've voted in over here. Total fucking ball ache having to number 1-12 in terms of preference.
You don't have to. I only went to 3rd preference.

Oh right, good to know for next time. By the end I was using criteria such as "he has a weird face" or "don't like her surname".
Yeah not many go all the way down. I had 3 candidates I could stomach and 10 I think are a waste of oxygen so I did 3. 1st preference looks like he'll be elected but if none of the 3 were to be elected I'd rather my vote not be counted for any of the others.

I did vote for them.

I think if FF go into coalition with SF it would mean Michael Martin would have to step down as party leader.
This is probably his last shot and being Taoiseach, so don’t see him giving that up easily.
If We get FF and FG again the electorate will be furious.

Sticky situation for them to be in alright.

Their other problem is that their core voter base (50-65, 65+) absolutely despise SF and don't mind FG. Their biggest problem in the long term though is that the under 30s and the capital aren't voting for them.

I was mightily impressed with the ballot paper I saw. I've papered walls of Ewing Towers with some bits that were smaller. And it appeared to be coloured!
Mine had about 20 names on it.
Instantly dismissed about a dozen of them.
Voted 1-5 in the end. Could have left it at 1-3.
Looking likely that my No. 1 will grab the 5th seat in the constituency.
