Is ADHD made up?

It's definitely real. However, it's also an overused term.

Like people who have a runny nose and sneeze a couple of times saying they have the flu, people are too quick to say a naughty kid has ADHD. There are some genuinely bad kids who haven't been disciplined or, as with many adults, are just cunts. But that doesn't mean that it's not a real illness.

Kind of like how the classification of "stress" was abused when it first came out and people were being given months off work due to "stress". We are quick to abuse terms that are difficult to understand to make things easier for ourselves. Now lazy teachers use ADHD to cull their classes of students they do not want to deal with.

The condition is real but not every person labelled as having it does.

what utter bollocks, teachers don't diagnose any child with anything what makes you think they do. real or not a child with adhd will be very difficult to teach and will find a classroom environment a very challenging experience. teachers culling classes? this requires an explanation please.

I don't think you have read his post how it was intended. He isn't saying teachers diagnose, he's saying some teachers use it as an excuse to get rid of problem pupils.

Show me one teacher who has used ADHD as an excuse. It is not as simple as that. Most classes these days are of mixed ability and you have to tailor your lesson to suit ALL abilities from the fuck wit to the boffin. If, and this is a bloody big if, a child is diagnosed, it has been the result of quite a few months assessment.

ADHD is real but it is also quite rare. Most children diagnosed with it haven't got it and are just labelled as such by lazy parents and doctors because it is piss easy to treat by sticking them on the drug of choice.

I pity anyone who has a child with proper ADHD, life must be one long worry.

At school I could never focus for more than 2 minutes. No matter how hard I tried to listen or focus is always end up day dreaming or getting distracted. At college the tutour would ask me a question from the days topic, a cheer went around if I got it correct.

Maybe in today's world that would be some sort of disorder. I'm sure they'd want me on 20 quids worth of drugs a month to 'help' me.

Funnily enough I am fully focused on footy for 90 mind. So a selective lazyness

It's not being lazy, though, is it? Did you manage to keep your focus at school for subjects that really interested you?

From a general perspective questions such as these are now arising far too often in my opinion. The stigmatisation of people with disabilities and illnesses that now occurs in our media on almost daily basis is making people think many heatlth and mental issues are just being made up or played on.

I am sick of busybody cunts like Anee Diamond on the TV spouting off about illnesses she knows fuck about because it seems to be the fashion to have a go and demonise the people of ill health. She was incredulous that 90 people are on incapacity benefit because of Acne, now i have been in hospital with people with severe acne and i can understand why they are incapacited, but what the fuck does a fat washed up mouthy woman now about a skin problem.

The same is happening with problems such as ADHD, people who suffer from it will become more and more ridiculed by people who know fuck all about it.

It fucks me off.

...that's very fat-washed-up-mouthy-woman-est... you and your prejudices!

It may be a genuine illness and for those suffering or family who have to deal with it they have my every sympathy, however there are some who simply use it as an excuse and some use it as a label to hide behind. All mental illness is difficult to understand or comprehend, another one is bi polar disease again some use it almost as a badge to say look what I am suffering from, however many experts believe this is what afflicted Caligular the Roman Emperor as well as Hitler. Sad indictment of our times unfortunately.

I have a psychology degree and was often belittled because no matter what they said, I maintained that ADHD wasn't real and was a convenient excuse for naughty kids.

Still believe it.

I have no personal experience of it myself so only going off opinion but I'd go as far saying 95% of kids diagnosed with it don't have it and use it as an excuse to hide behind, even a badge of honour, when the kid is just a twat.

It pisses me off that people claim that their kid has ADHD just because their shit parenting has left them with a fucked by, uncontrollable half wit of a kid.

It takes the perceived seriousness away from the condition for those that do suffer from it, such as Pidge's lad, making it harder for them to get the help they need.

I was diagnosed with ADHD but it later turned out that I'm just a ****. I have no underlying medical / psychological condition other than a bit of an inferiority complex due to my tiny genitals and intellect.
I would challenge anyone to put one kid who has ADHD in a room with another who is just a bit of a bell end who has been badly brought up, observe them and try to tell the difference. We continue to give Ritalin to kids with "ADHD" when really it is the parents we should be medicating -in Switzerland, at Dignitas.
