Is Gaël Clichy that good?

Whether it's due to long-term decline, temporary loss of form or failing to adjust to Pellegrini's more offensive approach, Clichy has really struggled this season. It's not just a question of having an off-day against Downing still less of a nightmare against Bayern's great wing pair. He was in trouble against Hatem ben Arfa in the very first game and his failure to keep out Kim Bo-Kyung at Cardiff was alarming. Gael did well in 11/12 and seemed a happy chappy in those days but at present his performances are a cause for concern and it's only to be expected that this would be highlighted sooner or later.

To be honest he was a weakness for us in his last season at arsenal. then he did well in his first season with city and found his old form. But he gone backwards last two season. He a decent lad and a good player but he only had one great season which was the 2011 and 2012 season. Not been the same since.

He a weakenss for you if you ask me. Bayern munich game showed that

If we are going to use Bayern Munich as a marker I would say are whole team was a weakness. Although I felt when I heard that Clichy should not be playing in that game especially coming back from injury the way Guardiola teams play
A fully fit Clichy is the best Left back in the prem imo

Baines>cole=shaw>Clichy. But im not saying clichy is shit baines is world class so is cole and shaw. clichy's lack of attacking flair is his biggest flaw.

Shaw isn't world class. Yet.

From the games ive seen him play (not alot mind you). He has been the best or 2nd best player on the pitch and the first ,ost of the time was adam lilan. Yesterday match from what i saw from him he was everywhere all the time breaking up play and providing the charge.

I think there's a reason Arsenal were happy to sell him for £7m.

I think he's solid, and in terms of Prem left backs he ranks in the top few.

But I'd love us to get Baines or Shaw in Jan and provide him with genuine competition.

if we get any of those 2 they would start ahead of him on current and previous form...

only because they are delusional, bitter knobheads. Bet they weren't happy when he played a huge role in us winning the title.

Clichy has failed to hit the heights of our championship wining season when he was outstanding....when he left Arsenal there wasn't many Gooners up in arms about it and maybe that tells a tale, also picking him up for £7 million in today's market was cheap.....

That said we know that the quality is there but he does seem to blow hot and cold.....

I would still love for us to go all out for Baines as he offers the best of Kolorov and Clichy, and £20-£25 million would likely get him as left back is one of our weaker areas of the squad.....

compare the right back spot we know what we are going to get from Zabba and Richards, the same can't be said of Clichy and Kolorov (to a degree) and I must admit Kolorov is starting to show why he was highly sought after when we signed him

Most who slag Clichy in this thread will be the ones who wanted rid of Kolarov in the summer, the guy needs a decent run of games in the side, Kolarov has had a good start to the season but from what we have seen over his time with us he is not as good a defender as Clichy.
