Is Gaël Clichy that good?

Seems to have lost some pace which can happen by that age.

Was shocked with his defending of Torres for the first.

Shouldn't have been so square and flat-footed. He underestimated Torres' pace and was not quick enough this time to bail himself out.

Disappointing with his start to the season but I think he'll find form.
Hopefully for another club

thought he was the best left back in the league when we won it , but his standards have dropped alarmingly , last season was average , this season he is having a mare , i would play zabs at left back , and richards on the right until january , then buy either baines from everton or shaw from southampton

His first half display was awful and caps a miserable start to the season for him. His one asset was his speed and ability to recover even if beaten. Now he's getting beaten for fun game after game. Kolarov knows how to defend by getting his body between the attacker and the ball. Like many posters, it 's amazing how far Clichy has regressed to the point where Kolarov now looks the far better option.

Clichy is a liability --- have never liked his positional play always leaves too much room for attacking wingers to control the play , gets turned far too easily and now everyone beats him for pace.
It's time to off load him asap before everyone team latches on ---underlined his short comings big time today Chelsea always lokked a threat down their right side

Nail on the head, that's precisely what Clichy should have been doing with Torres but where has Clichy's pace gone, it's not just half a yard he's lost if Torres is strolling past him.

Yet many on here in the summer, when others were touting the possibility of signing a left back, were mentioning him as "world class".....clearly he wasn't, isn't and is actually impersonating the standard of Wayne Bridge this season.

I disagree with this, Kolarov looks the better option because of how well he is playing and how much he has improved its nothing to do with Clichy being turd.

Baffling really
No idea what's wrong with him
Nowhere near making a tackle today. Almost looks not fit?

How does a young man like Clichy suddenly lose pace? He should have shown Torres onto his left too but didn't. It seemed to me more like a half arsed attempt to stop Torres than a pace issue.
As I said before approaching 29, it can easily happen to some people.

Especially if you've clocked as many metres as Clichy has.

Remember when Tevez was actually kind of quick?

Always rated Kolarov because of his attacking capabilities and never thought he was that bad defensively compared to Clichy who was so fast he was near impossible to catch out in the last couple of seasons.

Third time I've said it tonight but I think Barry had a big influence of Clichys game, they worked well together. It seems Clichy isn't as effective when we now play with a more exposed left unlike Kolarov who is more willing to be dirty, get in the way and take the responsibility to stop the attack himself, Clichy it would appear based his game more on working in tandem with a CDM to cover attacks.

It's a shame we can't have two LBs in good form at the same time.

We bought a very good player at the time and of which i thought was a bargain but something just doesn't sit right with him this season he seems to have lost is ability to out pace a player and seems to have lost his confidence?

I agree and since the FA cup final his confidence has disappeared..... along with his pace.

His first season he was so consistently good, now it seems any half decent winger can skin him. So depressing

He was outstanding the season we won the league but getting skinned by Torres and Ivanovic has given me serious doubts, Baines in Jan???
