Are you seriously suggesting that major oil companies pay a fair price for say, North Sea Oil? They pay a net fraction of the corporation tax rate paid by land based industries. Bare in mind that they are extracting something that is meant to be owned by the state in the first place. Fact is they buy the rights and the tax thereafter is relatively small.

I don't really know what tax they pay per barrel to be honest, and that's how states make money from Oil (and other mineral extraction)

As for letting go, if the people want letting go, let them go, but it seems that the majority want to be part of the Union
