Surely it's a cultural phenomenon and nothing to do with religion. There was a Muslim representative interviewed on one of the news channels recently, he seemed almost to despair at those of his co-religionists who misunderstood this point and blamed it on their inability to read the Quran/Koran in its original Arabic and having to rely on 'translations' or 'interpretations' with a political agenda to push. However I would be mightily miffed if I had queued at my local butchers for a cut price liver promotion limited to one special offer per customer only to find burqa clad women in the same queue - how could one know whether they had gone back for a double, or even treble clutch of goodies?

Didn't realise one Muslim spoke for every Muslim. It wouldn't matter whether it was a minority of one who wanted to wear it, I'd still say it shouldn't be banned.

They say the two men, wearing burkas, were killed before they could detonate their explosives-laden vests.

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN -- Two suicide bombers struck at a Pakistani refugee camp Saturday, killing at least 40 people who had sought sanctuary from fighting in the militant-plagued tribal belt.

The assailants, who concealed their explosives under head-to-toe burqas, detonated the bombs within minutes of each other near lines of refugees waiting to register for food and other aid at a camp in Pakistan's Kohat region

As I said earlier, it's an argument against clothes. If we weren't allowed to wear clothes or carry backpacks etc. there'd be no suicide bombs; simple.

I wasn't. It still isn't relevant. Unless you're claiming that suicide vests couldn't be concealed under articles of western clothing, it's absolute tripe. I have a sneaky feeling I could have carried one concealed under a bubble jacket I used to wear in the 90s.

To use a typically right wing defence to defend a left wing idea. How can you go about rolling back civil liberties that soldiers died fighting to save? The problem is you, not muslims.

Are civil liberties a left-wing idea? I don't consider ElanJo to be left-wing but I'll happily stand with him on civil liberties and freedom.
