Is left back really a problem?

spine

edi
laporte
de bruyne
sergio
fucking good spine if you ask me
it’s not.
Sergio is not what he was, de Bruyne isn’t a Fernandinho or de jong type, he adds to the spine with his creative play like D silva. Fern is playing at CB and out of position and it’s not his game.

Hart/Edi
Kompany/Laporte ( though Laportes influence isn’t as strong yet)
De jong/fern
Tevez/aguero

they were great spines. We need the one next.

I think mendy is the problem a mistake waiting to happen whether it's a loss of concentration a half hearted tackle or a poor pass letting the opposition in.

Left back is always a problem, a very specialist position where the number of decent ones is always less than the number of decent teams.

I think Mendy is ok, we have had worse. Its a question of form, on top form Mendy is a great player we should give him a bit more time to get back to that before shopping him in as there is no guarantee that who ever we get would be better, most of the names I see are on a par with him.

I wholeheartedly agree with your first paragraph. As for Mendy, IMO, he isn't a great player. On another team, in another league maybe he could be a good left back. Here, is serviceable.

Yes. He has spent a lot of time injured. So did Roque Santa Cruz. When he did play, and not too well, he was slated and became a joke amongst fans. Mendy, on the other hand, is given a lot of latitude. Perhaps some find his seemingly good personality and clownish antics endearing.

Sometimes after injuries, athletes lose their drive. They still try but "it' is gone and some never get it back.

If Mendy didn't make such gaffes it might not be an issue. I may be overemphasizing his mistakes but when he makes them, you absolutely know it.

It's not a question of whether there aren't better players out there than Mendy/Zin, but whether they're more important to bring in right now than other positions.

For me, we need two CBs, and a successor to Aguero more than we need a left back.

All 2 of them. Thankfully none of our other defenders have made that many.
