It was worse in the 70s and early 80s, emigrated from Tameside to Cheadle Hulme 20 odd years ago. The industrial decline in post industrial mill towns is tragic.
Manchester City centre seems to be choc full of apartments, my concern is that they’re investment vehicles for investors rather than homes which ‘normal’ people can afford.

I know 2 people who own Manchester apartments but don't live there, just visit.

I’ll be having a nice G&T in the terrace bar at the king st townhouse looking at the fantastic gothic architecture and just be glad I can go back into town again.

Could be, or tailgating other residents. Or at the higher end they could be striking up friendships or relationships with residents so they can access the building.
Or using airbnb in building, or some of his neighbours within the building might be professional thieves. Load up a suitcase and you can carry all valuables away without arising much suspicion.
