Is Manchester a tough place to live in?

Could be, or tailgating other residents. Or at the higher end they could be striking up friendships or relationships with residents so they can access the building.

Or using airbnb in building, or some of his neighbours within the building might be professional thieves. Load up a suitcase and you can carry all valuables away without arising much suspicion.
rogue keys and cards all over the place....short term lets.

Do I detect an expert ?

Will always love the area out of loyalty, and for its people, but never missed the place since moving away best part of 40 years ago.

Prefer to have nicer countryside (plus coast) right on the doorstep, a much lower crime rate and less drizzle.

Manchester would be a medium/small town without it's damp weather. Cotton fibre could be manipulated much better than where it was grown in a dry climate. The cotton mills needed heavy machinery, which spawned the steel mills which fed the heavy engineering industry. The dye industry grew to feed the textile mills. These were the core drivers of Manchester's growth, with the associated peripherals like finance, transport hospitals etc. All down to a damp climate. Living in a mediterranean climate, the difference can be a bit hard to deal with for some, wives/g.friends in particular.
