Is Mancini adapting his Inter tactics? [Tactics talk]

Do not mean to try and be clever Ricster - but what you describe is what I was expecting to see this season - I could not understand all this 3 DM hysteria - as if we were going to play 3 in a flat line in front of the back four.

Ya Ya was always going to be the jewel IMO - we just need to identify a back-up that can slot into the role if he is unavailable

I see that to be Milner because he is closer than Silva to the Ya Ya attributes - That is part of the reason we were so dogged in our pursuit - whilst a lot on here were obsessing about some perceived swap for Ireland - strange that as well

Im in the same boat with you, i didn't think we would play 3 DM's either, but i didn't expect to see Yaya as the link up AM as we did on Monday. That was a shock to the system, but worked brilliantly and when you take into account we have Silva who is a natural in that position it was a gutsy and great call by Mancini.

yaya played well on Monday night but he is not the crewtive force that we may sometimes need.

what he did do was help to win the ball back high up the pitch, held it up quite well as well.

but from an attacking point of view, im hoping i dont see him in that role too often.....though it did seemto release barry as well which is more of a positive

People seem to be transfixed about whether we started with a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or many other variations against Liverpool. The system we played was so fluid that it does not necessarily fall in to a rigid template formation that you can choose on Football Manager.

What was clear is that we played a back 4. De Jong deep in the centre, Barry to his left, Yaya to his right, Milner and AJ Wide and Tevez as a deep plying centre forward. Clearly Yaya played a lot more advanced than De Jong, and Barry was almost in between the two.

There were passages of play where this could be considered 4-2-3-1 and other passaged of play where it was 4-3-3. It is splitting heirs to say it was one formation and not another because the way the system worked allowed the shape to be fluid and interchangable.

I keep saying this. Until we get our fullbacks healthy, we wont know our normal squad and formation.

Second, in two weeks Boateng and Bridge should be back. Question, which would you guys rather see?

RB Richards.. CB CB LB Boateng.. or

RB Boateng CB CB LB Bridge

I might for for first one.. depending who we are playing and who needs rest of course.

Anyone get a good enough stream or view to see anything interesting?

I think everyone saw Micah and Jole getting forward down the flanks yet the end product wasn't quite there. I reckon until we have Boateng and Kolarov fit we won't see a fully justified result of Mancini's tactics. Balotelli's role will be interesting though, whether he plays on the right of a front 3 or in a front 2 with Tevez and Silva in behind (the formation we played against Valencia) remains to be seen.

Iriaqi goals did the job as usual on the stream front and Micah got forward but had no final product, quel surpise and Lescott was just very very defensive. When he got forward he looked like a fish on a bicycle, or as the spanish like to say, an octopus in a garage. :)

Biggest problem for me was the lack of quality in our fullback areas. I'm not sure how many times they either gave the ball away, played a teammate into trouble, or generally chose the wrong option when in possession of the ball...

That's going to be a big problem with this formation - it relies so heavily on attacking fullbacks who have the brains and technique to operate as wingers when we're attacking. Yesterday I found time and time again we would work the ball into the final third, open up space for the fullback, only to find that said fullback either didn't make the right run, was nowhere to be seen, or the quality of the final ball from the fullback was woeful.

Second half I thought we were very poor in terms of our ball retention generally, but also we couldn't match Sunderland's intensity (much like the first half against Spurs).

.

This.

But until that point RM needs to change his tactics and he seems unwilling or unable

Found this very useful tool that'll make life a lot easier for the resident uber managers.

http://this11.com/

Pretty basic stuff - you register, add and save your squad and pull arrows and players to their spots (there's two arrows and two lines to choose from, so you might want to add a key to what's what). If you want to remove an arrow or a line you pull it off the board to the right. Click "draw 11" and the site gives you tidy links for pasting. Once you've added and saved your squad, drawing a board or a formation is a quick 5 min process.
