Alex Ferguson became a manager in 1974. Alex Ferguson first won the European Cup (CL) in 1999. United spent a LOT of money in Ferguson's tenure (1986-), more than any other English club in his early days.
Arsene Wenger became a manager in 1984, Wenger first won the European Cup (CL) in... uh... he hasn't yet. Arsenal had possibly the best domestic team ever assembled and Wenger couldn't do it.
Roberto Mancini became a manager in 2001, Mancini hasn't won the Champions League (European Cup) yet... but is 11 years into his coaching career.
Only Mourinho can really guarantee you European success within x years and he is struggling to deliver it at the world's biggest club with the world's most expensive team, so nothing is certain.

But Give me the prem 5 times in those 10 years and I for one would be well happy and throw in a couple of FA cups just for good measure, now that is more than achievable with RM in charge, so to think RM should go based on Europe is a joke
Prem all day for me...the champs league is a bridge to far at the moment, the groups we have been drawn in haven't even allowed us to grow into the comp....tonight's result for Ajax was there biggest and will probably stay there biggest of this season, for me I don't know why as we are relative new comers when it comes to The champs league....patience is what is required, we will win it one day but it might take 10 yearsyayas trusty right foot said:Dont really care about the chumps league..

And there's no sign he's prepared to change i.e be pragmatic or defensive away from home in Europe. He approaches European games as if they are Premiership games, but in reality we are not favourites in all these games so we have to be tactically disciplined to compete - we don't do that. We just throw caution to the wind.
We are not perfect, and neither is Mancini, therefore constructive criticism is fair. If not now, then when?

Personally I think he has lost the plot a little this season. TInkering like mad, trying new systems, confusing the hell out of the the defence. There has been absolutely no stability, no continuity of selection. These are all things that Mancini has been poor with this season that he didn't do last season.
I'm not too sure why he's turned into the tinker man, but if he carries on then he will be definitely testing the owner's patience I would think.
For me, to be a big club, you need stability, and in the main to play to your strengths and let the opponents worry about you. I feel we have played the opposite this year, it's as if he's had far too much time to think about everything and he's mulled it over and over in his mind and come up with all these confusing tactical solutions.
They haven't worked, he's just confused the players, they look totally all at sea defensively, and if the rumours of that defensive coach who can't speak English are true, then that's another shocking decision.
Apart from that, he's perfect.

I think we all know why he was shown the door at Inter, and this competition has been his archilles heal? Personally I have been questioning where we go from here or a few weeks, and perhaps the coincidence that we have brought in an ex Barca honcho might be a clue for who we are looking at if the trigger is pulled.
But even if Mancini can bring us another premier league trophy this season is that gonna be enough, personally I don't think so. Right now barring a miracle of biblical proportions we are out of the champions league and that just is not good enough.

Cant believe this has come up again, just because of a bad result so what!!!, would you like to go back to where we was not in Europe at all, we are only just starting to build our european experience,it comes through playing in this type of league year after year, we are playing against opponents who have played this kind of football for decades, cant believe the meltdown...............
