Maybe if RM had got his top summer transfer targets then we would be sitting pretty in the CL ? Perhaps he realised the current squad wasn't good enough and this year's signings haven't improved us (when any of them are fit to play that is).

Alex Ferguson became a manager in 1974. Alex Ferguson first won the European Cup (CL) in 1999. United spent a LOT of money in Ferguson's tenure (1986-), more than any other English club in his early days.

Arsene Wenger became a manager in 1984, Wenger first won the European Cup (CL) in... uh... he hasn't yet. Arsenal had possibly the best domestic team ever assembled and Wenger couldn't do it.

Roberto Mancini became a manager in 2001, Mancini hasn't won the Champions League (European Cup) yet... but is 11 years into his coaching career.

Only Mourinho can really guarantee you European success within x years and he is struggling to deliver it at the world's biggest club with the world's most expensive team, so nothing is certain.

However I don't think it's coincidence that Mancini flopped in the Champions League at Inter and at City (so far). That's too big a time frame to put it down to bad luck and these teams were and are hugely resourced teams. With the players at his disposal at both clubs he should be doing a lot better.

Under most circumstances, sure. But this isn't a man that has shown he's capable of winning in Europe. It has been stated that the goal of the owner (the one that can pull out with a phone call and send us to the conference or worse within a few seasons) is getting into Europe and competing on a level that is a justification for the massive expenditures

The gut reaction is to say "out" although I'm not saying that specifically, but I'm just looking at this from a practical standpoint. We have owners with the highest expectations in the world of Sports. This is not what they're paying Mancini for. It would be different if our 1 point came against Real, Barca, and Munich. You have commentators the likes of the weasel Gary Neville that are calling out where the goals are going to come from minutes before hand, yet Mancini isn't making the adjustments? When you can clearly look to the Manager and ask why he made a decision that can be directly linked with a goal, you have to start wondering why that manager is being paid!

I have a feeling that every single one of you that are rubbishing the negative comments about Mancini would be delighted if he was sacked for Guardiola or Mourinho either in January or the summer.

How many managers have been sacked for less? I personally wouldn't look back if Mancini was sacked for Mourinho or Guardiola...

Mourinho was able to win it essentially with the squad that Mancini failed miserably with. Guardiola was able to do it twice in three years. Mancini has made the managers of Ajax, Dortmund, Napoli, and Munich look like tactical geniuses by comparison. Its becoming abundantly clear that Mancini is not able to achieve success in Europe (again, winning the tournament isn't the requirement).

After what can only be described as an humiliating night in champions league football for the club. The question I am now asking which I guessing is in back of a lot of peoples minds is this it for Macini? Is this as far as he can take us?

I think we all know why he was shown the door at Inter, and this competition has been his archilles heal? Personally I have been questioning where we go from here or a few weeks, and perhaps the coincidence that we have brought in an ex Barca honcho might be a clue for who we are looking at if the trigger is pulled.

But even if Mancini can bring us another premier league trophy this season is that gonna be enough, personally I don't think so. Right now barring a miracle of biblical proportions we are out of the champions league and that just is not good enough.

He got it wrong tonight, he really did. And his comments after the game tonight have really pissed me off . The one about its his fault because he told JL not to jump is just fucking ridiculous in the extreme.

However I don't think it's coincidence that Mancini flopped in the Champions League at Inter and at City (so far). That's too big a time frame to put it down to bad luck and these teams were and are hugely resourced teams. With the players at his disposal at both clubs he should be doing a lot better.

He might need to change his ideology to succeed in Europe but not a sackable offence unless the owners become desperate for CL. We want to play like Barcelona but don't really have the pace of passing and intensity they do. We need more pace in the team whether in the form of a fast playmaker (like Hazard) or in the form of wingers which Mancini seems to hate yet they aren't as dated and primitive as he seems to think, Real Madrid and Bayern are doing well enough with them at European level.
